  • The U.S. supplied itself internally during WWI. The U.S. produced enough food and war material to supply itself and the Entente Alliance countries in Europe during the war, as did Australia, other Anzac countries, and Canada. Unofficially, some American product reached the Central Powers as well, but this was actively suppressed by the time of America's entry. After the war, the U.S. privately and publicly continued much needed food and other humanitarian aid to the European continent, including Germany and Bolshevik Russia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoover_Administration http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_I#Entry_of_the_United_States
