In the Latin rite, the Catholic Church teaches that the spouses as ministers of Christ's grace mutually confer upon each other the sacrament of Matrimony by expressing their consent before the Church. You can think of the priest as the witness for the Church. He is not a material nor formal part of the Sacrament of Matrimony.

Yes, but if you do, and a few years later decide to get a divorce, the church will annul your marriage because you weren't free of impediment when you chose to get married. Meaning that because she was pregnant, neither one of you were freely able to make the decision to get married. It's a hypocritical situation the church is in. On the one hand, they support your marriage if you are pregnant, but then later, when one of the couple wants out to remarry or whatever, they annul the first marriage because you were pregnant.
