  • They deserve respect for living so long even if it seams like they have not lived a useful life.
  • They are people who have lived a long while and should be respected. You'll find, as you get older yourself and interact with older people (as I do in my job) that each one of them has a story of trials and tribulations, of sickness and of loss, of endurance during hard times both personally and historically (ie: wars, the great depression). They have raised children and contributed to the economy and their churches and communties. To have persevered to a ripe old age through all of this deserves tremendous respect in my book.
  • Our ancestors laugh at us for the foolish messes we get ourselves into. We see the problems they created and say to ourselves, "They are so primitive and stupid. They created problems but we solved them." But then we are completely blind to the even bigger problems that WE have created but they had solved. Never mind, our children shall sort this out ...
  • Yes we should respect older people. Visit a nursing home and sit there and listen to some of their Life stories. Many of them didn't have it easy "growing up" They worked hard and didn't have things like computers, play station, washer & dryers, dishwashers, micowaves-just to name a few. You really should get out and talk to some old people or are you afraid you might learn something?
  • I feel people earn respect..I don't think an office "deserves" respect..I think the person holding that office either has earned it or not..same with people..if you have a cranky whining sourpuss of any age, such a person could be treated with civilty but certainly hasn't earned my respect. I think we need to respect our children..that is the area where we most fail..some parents treat them as possessions, chattel, things..that saddens me.
