  • It really sounds like the air filter needs to be cleaned. excessive useage of gasoline, normally means the air filter is dirty and not allowing sufficient air to mix with gasoline, for proper combustion. The air filter is located on top of the carburator and will require a screwdriver and maybe a wrench to take the lawnmower cover, off your lawnmower. remember where the screws came from for re-assembly. Take the styrofoam filter out and clean with a 409/water combination. towel dry the filter and replace. re-screw the cover back on and you should be good to go. Also, while you are at it, check the oil dipstick for proper level of engine oil. if its low, add the correct viscosity motor oil, as directed by the mowers factory manual. if the motor oil is really black, then its time for an oil change. remember, motor oil is the life-blood of any engine and should be changed regularly.

  • I used to work for Sears Repair Services, repairing these mowers and the most common problem was dirty or old fuel clogging the carburetor. I suggest dropping the bowl on the carburetor, and making sure nothing is growing in there.IE:rust,slime,mold. if not try flushing the fuel and using fresh fuel FROM THE STATION! Good Luck
  • change the carb. filter
