if you dont want him squaking at he first peek of sunlight, i would cover it up.

it depends on where you got the cockatiel from. if its from a breeder and they did not cover the cage its best if you dont. your bird can be uncomforatable and scared under a blanket if its never had one over it. if you dont use one be prepared to wake up at the first ray of sunlight.

We never covered their cages or else had them in large flights we never covered and didn't have any problems. However if you stay up all night long or have the lights on for long, you possibly cold cover it so that they bird could get his sleep as parrots really do need a lot of sleep.

many times tiels have night frights and do better covered. if you notice the birds acting spastic in the cage or you have them in a room where you watch tv late into the night...then yes cover them.
