  • Being as you are a subcontractor I don't see why you should. But I'd seek some legal advice on this. And be absolutly certain you are considered a subcontractor with no agency relationship to your client.
  • Working in insurance, I would say that this is improper. Workers compensation is a coverage that the employer is to pay into, not the employee. They are using you to reduce their expense. I would address this with their HR department or an employment attorney.
  • You are self-employed and this is a whole different ball field than working for a company directly and some states require that you carry certain coverages. A friend of my dad's was a subcontractor who installed aluminum siding and he was required to have such coverage.. he went through an employment agency so that he could have the coverage at better rates. I would check and see if it is an actual requirement or if this is just what they choose to do but you can go without. It differs state to state.
  • This is improper. Workers compensation insurance is carried by an employer to cover its employees. As a subcontractor, you are not an employee.
  • workers comp insurance isnt all bad if you can you should pay this yourself and handel your own money show proof of this to the employer if its something they require. but find out for sure that that money is going all to insurance and nowhere else then decide if the rate is where you would pay for yourself. companys can often get better rates than individuials I pay my own through my company as a subcontracted drywaller
