  • You mention being a novelist, so I'm wondering if you're asking how many workers and how long to build using todays modern tools and techniques, or how many workers and how long to build using tools and techniques of the 1880's? Using power tools, laser levels, nail guns, prefabricated drywall, etc. a house can be put up much quicker today than it would have taken nearly 130 years ago. If you're talking modern tools and techniques, I can tell you 2 friends of mine worked building houses when I lived in Texas back in 1980 and if I recall correctly they would typically put up a house in 6 weeks, on average, with a crew of 6. There were 2 additional workers who specialized in hanging drywall. This was before nailguns. I had the car and used to drive them to and from work and would watch the progress as the houses went up. These houses were pretty close to your specifications.
  • Thank you, Gmeades. Yes, I was talking about modern construction and you answered pretty much what I needed. I was limited in space for what I wanted to ask. I had to laugh because the last time I personally worked on a house was before nail guns, and that makes a huge difference in time. I had guestimated about 12 weeks with six or seven people, plus a few extra specialists for high end staircases and other fancy items. And thank you also, Migarce. That picture is pretty much what I was thinking, only about six times larger with the colonnades going above the second floor. This is a great site. I'm happy I found it. Best to all of you.
