  • Garbage in, Garbage out! If it's getting poor drive to the "Head" it will read it back that way as well. Bad cables can be the cause of this or dirty heads. John
  • Clean the heads of your machine and get a new good quality tape
  • Sounds like it's tracking wrong or you are using an old, many-time used tape. If your TV is wired through your VCR, then what you see on the TV should be basically what you get on the tape. Double check the input and output cables on the VCR and make sure the connection is good. First, try a new tape. (I've found if I FF all the way through, then RW back to the beginning, it "tightens" the tape on the spindles, and may make the quality better.) Next, check your owner's manual for information about tracking. If you no longer have your owner's manual, do a google search for the make and model number of your VCR set. Add either "owner manual" or "user manual" and it MAY be on the 'net. If neither of those work, the record and/or playback heads may be dirty. Buy a "head cleaner" tape and use it. If you STILL have problems, call the manufacturer, if you're still under warrenty. Last, check with a repair shop or the manufacturer for repair costs. You'll PROBABLY find that you can buy a whole new VCR machine for what it will cost to repair.
