I will give my personal opinion, 1965 427 cu.in. fuel injected SC Cobra Roadster. God bless Carroll Shelby.

To be quite honest, I don't think that there is really any one car that you can point to and say that it is the best car ever made. You have to also take into account the purpose for which you want to use the car. If you want a sports car, then you will say one thing. If you want a large car that can carry several people, then you may say something else. Personally, I want a car that I can take off road. So, my vote for best car ever made is the Hummer H1.

For me (and only for me), I'd have to say a 1978 Honda Civic 1200 Hatchback. Now why in the *world* would I possibly come up with that answer? Quite simply, because it was my *first* car. It was small, noisy, rattled a lot, and didn't have much power... but it was MINE. ;o)

I will give the "historic" answer to cover the automobile's contribution to mankind, #1 The Ford Model T in 1908 changed transportation for humans and because of it's low cost, equaled the playing field for those with limited resources. # 2 Volkswagen Beetle. An affordable fun car that created a lot of new car enthusiasts. Remember all of the hype and enthusiasm around this car in the 1960’s. Why can’t Volkswagen do that again? #3 The Toyota Prius: The first significant hybrid car, and of course Toyota gets it right on the first try. Why can’t American car companies do that anymore? # 4 The Ford F-150 Oickup Truck. Still #1 after all of these years. Quite an accomplishment Ford, take a bow. # 5 The Chevrolet Corvette. Having a mid life crisis guys? Get a Vette, you’ll feel much better.

Any late-model Subaru, but especially the Outback. Beautiful to look at, a dream to drive, safe, safe, safe, great MPG even with standard all wheel drive. This is the ONLY car for mountain or heavy snow driving.
-
It could possibly be a car that could fly, as shown in this link: http://www.moller.com/skycar/

This one:

Hmm well this is definitely opinionated. I love mustangs, but also like the nissan 350z and love old time muscle cars like the camaros and mustnags.
-
Saleen S7 $395,000
-
The Popemobile? But really, I am more partial to the sports cars like porsches, lamborghinis, and all of those. Very flashy, they would suit me. Not that I'll ever own one but hey... hahah
-
I dont know much about the high-end muscle-exotics, but the best car I ever owned that performed great, good fuel economy, low maintenace, comfort and pep, was a 1976 Ford Pinto station wagon. That was by far the best car I ever owned. It had a 4 cylinder Japanese engine with a four speed transmission, and I could get rubber in three gears. It handled great, even when loaded with luggage, me,my wife and two kids, and a dog. Wonderful little car.

Bugatti Veyron 1000 HORSEPOWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
The Whomobile.

1961 through 1964 Chevrolet Impalas. While not ultra sporty, they had style, safety, room, and dependability, plus they are fun to drive. In a different class, the VW squareback had all the dependability of the beetle, but more useful design and style. But overall quality, style, performance it would be The Mercedes Benz 300SL gullwing or convertible from the mid and late 1950s.

I keep telling you, this one!
-
The original Volkswagen Beetle. The car has purpose, and was designed with purpose. The air-cooled engine was also a great feature, no freezing, no overheating. And how can you beat that classic design?!
-
Seriously - It has to the Honda S2000 - the highest horsepower output per liter with a naturally aspired engine, highest reving engine ever produced (9,000 RPM) - it can keep up with & out run high-end V6 & V8 models with an in-line 4. All that and it's a Honda! It's like owning a Ferrari without the high price tag, high fuel consumpion and high maintenance costs.... for any car pureist looking for the real deal... this has to be as good as it gets.
-
The best car in the world is "JAGUAR". My 'queen Augustina the Majesty' loves CATS.
-
I have to agree with the impala guy. 64's were luxury cars on the outside but all buisness under the hood. +You could get a corvette engine in the ss models it was like a mercedes with a viper engine. S2000's are my personal favorite car but they are pretty impractical ( and not quite a ferrari...) to its defense, the F20/F22 are two of the best engines ever made.
-
1958 Chevy or a 1971 Chevy SS.

For generalized automobiles, history has proven that either a Honda or Toyota is the best auto made. Look at the stats on reliability and dependability. Its a one, two choice.
