  • To quote Wikipedia: "The characteristic of the lion as the "king of the jungle" goes back to the influence of The Physiologus, an early Christian book about animal symbolism which spread into many cultures and generally had great influence in Western culture." • It really has nothing to do with them being the top of the food chain. The idea started because people saw how regal the male lion looked with his mane and saw him as a "kingly" figure. Because no other creature has a mane quite like the lion's he has been known as the "king of beasts".
  • I would go with JustCallMeBubbles's answer. Perhaps entirely conjecture, but I would imagine the Egyptians also had something to do with it, as they regarded cats as sacred animals and that harming one was a serious crime. Perhaps they brought this idea that cats were somehow "royal" into othwer cultures, since they were so influential in many other areas.
  • NO ANIMAL ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH CAN MATCH A LION IN TO FIGHT, SENCE THE DAYS OF THE PHARAOHS, LIONS WERE CALLED KINGS. LOOOOONG BEFORE CHRISTIANITY
  • did u no that lions use to be all nice n kind to people but now theyre not<because humans have been treating them really bad n that!! no they remain bad..unless u get a lion cub as a pet n then when it grows up it'll be nice n that..in a pet way
  • Pound for pound cats are formidable. If you compare a loin to other animals of the same bodyweight they are very impressive. Heck, my 7 month old cat is still only weighs about 8 pounds, when she is upset dealing with her can be a miserable experience, I just do what she wants. Now a cat that weighs several hundred pounds, I wouldn't go near it.
  • They look noble and there main looks like a crown. It's a flight of fancy for people who just want a little "magic lore" in their lives.
  • egyptian use to watch female lions hunt and saw how fierce they are hunting so they incorparted them into there gods giving there gods female lion heads and when they suspected the female god had a child they would make a god with a lion head and since gods were deemed kings so on the lions were incorperated with royalty
  • Who else but the king would get all the females to do for them. :0)
  • Nope, the buggers don`t even live in the jungle. that honour would have to go to the Tiger.
  • Nope, as neily said But I would say it's the Black Mambo .. ~Nemo~
  • If he did go to live in the jungle he'd probably only get to enjoy being king till he ended up as a squishy goo between some elephants toes. Or a large furry hors d'oeuvre olive on the end of some rhino's nose.
