I have a sharp pain on my left side below my ribs and ocasionaly throughout my stomach? what could it be?

I checked my first aid book and this is something that may help...the alveoli os the gas exchange sac at the end on the bronchioles which is air that enters into the lungs is it ur lungs that hurt or the ribs themselves because the left side is where the heart is and the left side has slighty longer ribs because they have the heart to protect... so ur problem could simply be gas... or it could be it could be ur pancrease which is on the let side by the stomach... when someone describes pain like this there are the questions I am suppose to ask when treating them Onset: How Long have you had the Pain does the pain come and go and how often Provocation: What makes the symptoms better or worse Quaility: how would u describe the pain Radiation: Where you feel the pain Severity: on the scale of 1-10 1 being no pain at all and 10 being worse pain ever where do u fall Treatment: have u done anything to try and realive the pain
