I think those laws about what to eat and how to eat were to keep the people of that day healthy. Maybe bacteria or something??? But, that's just my opinion.
-
During the time of the Old testament they likely did not have the proper health/cooking methods to prepare those types of food. As a result those laws/rules were there for their health. In the New Testament (Acts 10:9) Peter was instructed that he could now eat the Unclean foods. By the time of the New Testament they had better sanitary conditions and cooking methods.

Because Jesus Christ fulfilled and did away with the Mosaic Law. Christians aren't under the Mosaic Law.

Here's exactly why: 1 Timothy 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 1 Timothy 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: Acts 11:7-9 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat. But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth. But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. Matthew 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. Did Jesus eat pork? Well there is no passage in the Bible that says he did, but there is no passage that says he did not either. He did however break a few of the Jews traditions, or violate their Laws if you will, like gathering food on the Sabbath, and eating without washing his hands first. I don't have an answer besides this, Jesus did many things not recorded in the Bible. I can't recall the exact verse now, but there is one that says that. What is recorded is what is necessary to get you saved, and teach you to live a Godly life. Since no mention is made of Jesus' dietary preferences, I'd conclude that he did not consider it that important. Edit for discussion: I see a lot of discussion about Mosaic Law and why do we not still follow it. Most people who claim the name of Chirst are students of His, and believers in the New Testament. To be Christians, we try to be Christ like, to live Mosaic law would make us Jew like. Galatians 3:24-25 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. The difference between the two lifestyles is this, Christians believe in salvation by Faith and through Grace. We believe that Jesus' good will towards us as His children, and the love we have for Him, because He first loved us, and the trust we place in Him to honor His promises we will see Heaven despite our mistakes in life. Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. To live by Mosaic law is to believe that our good works, by following instructions to the letter, is a noble goal. It has however only been managed one time on this Earth. The only one who did it is Jesus Himself. No other man, including Moses was able to not violate any part of Mosaic law. As the above quote from Galatians says, the law was not intended to be a means of salvation, but a lesson. It taught us we could not measure up to God's righteousness. Jesus came to die for us to provide the means of salvation, and in so doing fulfilled the lesson. As for the dietarty restrictions in Mosaic law, this passage covers it for me. Romans 14:2-3 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. We then live as best we can as He taught us.

Leviticus is a book of the Old Testament, written hundreds of years before the birth of Christ. Supposedly it is rules that God gave Moses. To me it was written as a way to gain control over people, morally and financially. If you haven't read it, treat yourself. It's pretty funny!

That was in the old test. we are now under grace and mercy.

Matthew 19:17-78 states: Now someone approached him and said, "Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?" He answered him, "Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." For Christians, Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses. Christians are not held to the ceremonial parts of the Mosaic Law concerning of dietary purity, temple worship and sacrifices. Christians are held to the moral law of God, some of which is expressed in the Ten Commandments. However Jesus took the Ten Commandments to the next step summarizing them into the two Great Commandments: • You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. • You shall love your neighbor as yourself. And teaching things like • Everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. • Everyone is our neighbor including our enemies. Therefore we have to go much farther than the original recipients of the Ten Commandments ever dreamed. For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, part 3, section 2: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2.htm With love in Christ.

You see Jesus kept the Law and taught the keeping of the Law. He declares very clearly that he did not come to deliver people from the law. “Think not that I am come to destroy the law” Matthews 5:17. Circumcision and not eating the pig are part of the Law. However, Paul wiped out the law which Jesus and the prophets before him had tried so hard to establish. Here's what Paul said in his letter to the Romans (at 7:6) "But NOW we are delivered from the law" He did that to open out the faith to the gentiles (the non-Jews) to whom the law was not familiar and would have been seen as too great a burden to take on. To Paul the end justified the means. He openly admits to lying “For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?” (Romans 3:7) Paul is saying if you lie and as a result of that lie more people accept God then your lie is not a sin. Paul is perhaps the greatest personality in Christianity. If it wasn’t for him “Christianity” would have fizzled out with the departure of Christ. Now this is NOT meant to offend anyone, but follows on from the above statements. If it is wrong please point out the error. The great paradox is that the people who carry on circumcission, not eating pork and other practices of Christ to this day, are not called Christians but Muslims while those who call themselves "Christians" after Christ actually follow not Christ but a faith based on the teachings of Paul.

Read 1 tim. 1,2 You must read the new test. for yourself . There God will give you all the answers.

Maybe the Christians are worshipping a different god and don't know the difference.
-
Well done Sandman - you are spot on. The Christian god Theos is not the god - elohim of the Old Testament. And the Isaelite deity YHVH Elohim would be furious if he knew he was made equal with a demi-god called Jesus (let alone the Holy Spirit). On your concerns with food preparation, the Elohim are very particular about their culinary choices. They like their meat well done, with wine, bread and plenty of salt!

The key to understanding this issue is knowing that the Old Testament law was given to the nation of Israel, not to Christians. Some of the laws were to make the Israelites know how to obey and please God (the Ten Commandments for example), some of them were to show them how to worship God (the sacrificial system), some of them were to simply make the Israelites different from other nations (the food and clothing rules). None of the Old Testament law applies to us today. When Jesus died on the cross, He put an end to the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15).

Leviticus never mentioned cheese or milk. I think you mean to refer to Exodus: "Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk" (found also in Deuteronomy). This is taken to mean prohibition of meats and dairy products together, but literally it prohibits nothing more than what it literally says. No boiling baby goats in goat's milk. Boiled goat's milk releases oxytocin, a stress hormone; when the goats smelled it, it would sour their milk and make it undrinkable for kids or humans. The prohibition against seafoods is anything in the sea without fins and scales. I can't explain that one, but Moses didn't lead his people anywhere near the sea, save that one muddy crossing of the northern arm of the Red Sea. Luke, or whoever actually wrote the book of Acts, made up a miraculous and very convenient vision (or Peter did, I can't be sure which) of God declaring all sorts of meats "clean" just in time for Paul to sell his new religion to the non-Jews.

Because it's an ancient, uninformed, completely irrelevant rule, just like most of Leviticus. Why give power to these ridiculous ideas?

Chriest relaxed all these Levi Priesthood Rules and Regulations...there is nothing UNCLEAN to any anymore like the UNCLEAN Laws of Priests and Israelites...we can start back in Beginning in Genesis, the Lineage ,Savior has been Fullfilled...Genesis9:3 Romans 14:14 1Tim.4:3,4,5, even Elijah was fed by the raven which was "unclean"1kings17 Jesus sent HIS Apostles out with "eat what was put before them".... so,its really not hard to understand how the Savior being brought in ,HAD to change lots, no more animal sacrifices, for HE was "the blood of the lamb" for all man...priests could now "touch" people, physically, as HE did..but then it was still UNCLEAN to them....HE was the TRUE HIGH PRIEST..hope this can help u come to a better personal understanding :)justme ps their kosher laws were no milk products with meats...unkosher and forbidden the Israelites... because Christains accept the Messiah, they didn't....the Christ and the Apostle's showed these rigid laws that priests had suppressed and stressed for so long, causing so much sorrow and even hate, were no longer necessary....HE lifted those for all man...
