In a triangle with one right angle and another angle A The hypotenuse is the longest side opposite the right angle. The adjacent side is the other side next to A. The opposite side is the side opposite A. SOHCAHATOA!! sin A = opposite/hypotenuse cos A = adjacent/hypotenuse tan A = opposite/adjacent. Sounds to me like you ALREADY have the tangent T where T = tan A what you want is the angle A. To do this you need the "inverse tangent" or "arc tangent" of T which is written in various ways: A = arctan T = invtan T = atan T = tan^-1 T On a scientific calcuator, you get "arctan" by entering T then pressing the "2nd" or "Inv" buttons and then pressing the "tan" button. On Windows computers, look under "Accessories" for the Calculator and turn it Scientific by clicking the button under the "View" menu.
