I got this answer from a Washington Senators discussion group I am on. Mike Marmer ****************************************************************************** The Tom McCraw 250' homer was a game that I attended back in '71. It was against Cleveland. McCraw hit a fly pop and 2nd baseman John Lowenstein, center fielder Vada Pinson and shortstop Jack Heidemann all collided. I remember one of them horribly spiking another's face. It looked pretty nasty. McCraw could have hopped home on one leg. If memory serves, the Indians still pasted the Nats in that game. Tom McCraw got quite a few pinch hits that year, including some game winning homers. Not a bad jouneyman.

You stated, what is the shortest home run ever hit in baseball, which counts baseball in Leagues other then the Major Leagues. Their is a book out there called "The Twenty-Four-Inch Home Run" and it tells of a HR of 24", which they claim is the shortest HR ever recorded. The ball was hit straight down into the mud and nobody but the batter saw where it went until the batter came all the way around the bases. The players name was Andy Oyler who was a minor league short stop for Minneapolis in the early 1900's. Also on the shortest recorded homer that actually left the park. The shortest major league fence was the left field fence of the Lake Front (II) in Chicago, which was 180 feet. You can find this information in most Stadium books including the "Green Cathedrals" by Philip J. Lowry, which is great.
