African American, Native American, Latino American. White..American? Why don't White people get a special title? And no, the "There used to be a ton of racism before you were born" excuse isn't good enough.

Na, you never hear those terms. It really seems like people don't care about White people. I have seen countless black comics making fun of "Crackers". HELLO. Cracker is the same as Nigger, only for white people. David Letterman said in response to Don Imus' (spelling) "nappy headed hoe's" comment that Don was going to take the girls to the Cracker Cafe. That wouldn't have rolled over well if he's said the "Nigger Cafe" Cracker, Gringo, Red Neck, Hick, you see these names all of the time on TV. They are to me what Nigger, Beaner, Chink are to their respective nationalities.

I think part of the problem is the people themselves. So many seem to want to hold onto their past and not accept the fact that WE are a people not a race. We are Americans. I am an American first and foremost, anything after that means nothing except to myself. When everybody starts feeling that way things will change in this country. The problem is that they don't feel that way. There are many reasons for that feeling, justified reasons. So the whole problem is perpetuated by all sides, nobody is immune from this mentality, we are all to blame. When everybody treats each other equally and not different because of their race, religion, disability or any other reason, only then we will be a homogeneous society. Right now the declared differences are tearing apart this country and will eventually destroy it. People in the USA have to start saying I am an American period and everybody has to feel that way about each other. Divide and conquer the saying goes, we are divided and we will be conquered because of it.

Good question..Just to see how people would react I have gotten up before council meetings and introduced myself as a German american..it doesnt really sit well with the other ethnic groups for some reason. Seemed the right thing to do though because the others were getting up to represent the african american community or the hispanic, latino, asian..etc..They need to drop the labels and just represent the american community :)

Why would anyone WANT a "special title"? I certainly do not. I do not want to be called "Romani-American"... I think that would be silly. Oh, RomanI is an ethnicity, RomaniA is a country. They are not the same thing or even related. Please just call me "American," "Romani," "Roma," or even "Gypsy." If I was Black I would ask to not be called "African-American". I would ask to be called "American" or "Black," but that is just me.

Actually, I think "white" people get a better deal. If you have an english ancestry at all, you can be anglo american, or franco american, if you are at all french. You could just be euro american, for surely, all white people hail from some part of europe!

Because when someone says/thinks American they think of a white person. That's just how it is. The fact that one could be black, yellow, brown, red or any other color just isn't in the common perception, which to me, just goes to show how ignorant and brain-washed most people are.

White people have lots of special titles. Just to name a few: Boss, Foreman, Manager, CEO, President, etc.

North American as an ethnic group does not exist. Native Americans is the only true ethnic group which is strictly North American. White North Americans are of European descent and should be called Caucasian. Mixed Asian and Caucasian Americans or Europeans are called Eurasians. The special name you are claiming already exists, it is Caucasian.

You can look at a a Native, Black, Asian, Latino, and automatically know their orgin I mean. For whites, you can't do that. Also, you have to be aware that theres been alot of nationality mixing, esp. in America. And its alot easier to lump everyone together. Plus, back in the dya 9and even now, people assume the default race in America is something with blonde hair and blue eyes...something typically not given to the races mentioned above. I hear dosme time ago that when they had slaves a law was passed that they could never be citizens, always African. That real citizens were white, therefore need no special name. Personally I feel like giving other races a nationality/race infront of the country they are citizens of is stupid and kind of points out the difference between people, promoting an "us" and "them" mentality. We're all American anyway, right?

Why do some (NOTICE SOME) white people do this no disrespect but why? You want a name like european american which you techically have? You want the WAACP, and W.E.T.and so on. And how can having African or native in front of America actually be racist? How does this do such a great injustice? How does this stop anyone from functioning as normal human being? If someone wants to provide their heritage as long with america who cares? As long as American is in there all should be alright. Some people have strong ties to their heritage and likes to display them. I never hear anyone jumping in arms screaming you are an American quit separating yourself if the say im a New Yorker, oor Detroiter. People need to calm down.

Lots of Oppresion.Race problems. - Defining subcultures and music that belong to the race itself amd has shaped America. - Lots of contributions that went unrecognized. - Respect for ancestors. - The fact that the goverment referred to people as that. - Many not having the choice to be "American" ( slaves and native americans). - The fact that America is mutlicultural and all races/cultures should be recognized (if possible).

Most people refer to themselves as American. But there are certain things that set them apart from other. America is fairly diverse, why not celebrate it if the person feels the need. Also, Native Americans ARE Natives to America. the name suits them...along with the individuals tribe/ethnic background/hertiage. As for everyone else, I've noticed that they either have pride in how far they have come, are identified as that (by others) or identify themselves as that. Not to mention, are often immigrants. Also, White-American isn't a race. African/ Latino/ Asian is. Oh, and I have friends who were Polish-American and Russian-American. So, does that count?

White Americans are the ones that created the titles. no minority group petitioned the government to create a specific title for them. the US system of racial titles only exist due to some late 1800's social study called Eugenics. it tried to classify races according to intelligence. even the term "Caucasian is wrong, because true Caucasians come from the area around the caucus mountains near Russian. the US is the only country that I know that classifies it's citizens by race. you never hear of a Nior Frenchmen (Nior is black in french)you have to remember, when this country was founded, only whites were considered citizens, every other race was considered slaves or groups to be exterminated or moved out the way to allow whites to settle and do what they wished.

What are you "complaining" about? At least you're not "branded" with one of these labels that signifies your "place" in the MINORITY category--that comes with the "privileges" therein!!!!
