Question

Help answer this question below.

I've keep my rabbits in a shed,but have just taken in 3 extra rabbits.they all need their own cages,but i don't have enough room in the shed.is it ok to put some out in the garden in their hutches (perhaps the older ones)or will it be too cold?

Depends where you live, but I used to keep my rabbits outside. That's where they'd live naturally - just make sure it doesn't get ridiculously cold!

Where do you live? How cold is it getting at night? Are these house rabbits? Do they have shelter in their cages or a roof over them?

If they are used to being outside it's not a problem at all. I used to raise hundreds of rabbits outside and even down below freezing but they were used to it. If you place them outside, make sure that they are well protected from the rain or other weather. They should be out of the wind, also and not get wet at all.

- I'm in the UK and the weather is getting better now as summertime has started, it can still get chilly in the night.They have always been in a shed before. i was planning on leaving them outside,they will be sheltered,their hutches have roofs and my husband is making up a protection board to go on the front of the cages at night to stop any foxes.It will only be in the summer months they will be outside as by the time winter comes again maybe by August/september,my husband would have built me a bigger shed just for all the rabbits!!

- I think that as long as you keep them dry and no cold drafts from the wind, they should be fine. Pet rabbits aren't too far from their wilder cousins and they are pretty hardy usually. If the new rabbits have been at least in an unheated shed before I don't think it will hurt them to be out now. Just watch them carefully, just in case for sniffles or runny eyes. Make sure they have plenty of hay, as much as they want to lie in to eat, to play with. And I'm so happy you are giving these rabbits a home. Congratulations:-)

I would not put my rabbits outside, especially if they've been inside, and out of the elements. Plus living in a hutch outside is not a good life for a rabbit.

1. They are prey animal, and the will not feel safe.

2. Rats/rodents can get into there cages bite them, and eat there food.

3. They will have health issues from the stress they will have being scared, wondering if something is going to get them.

Get cages you can stack on top of each other, don't put them outside, especially the ones you've had, thats not fair for them.

- I already have the hutches you stack on top of each other. there is no room and I did'nt want to see these other 3 bunnies getting destroyed!!!!!!!!!

- Well it's nice of you to help these bunnies, but putting your rabbits outside is also not good, thats a tough call, you have to do whats best for your situation. I wish the best for the rabbits. Oh by the way your friend that trying to get her rabbit pregnant, can't she help since she wants more?
