There is some evidence to suggest that accupunture in general has some benefit, particularly when the person on the receiving end truely believes in the process. However, the forbidden point when you trap all of the bodies blood in the head causing paralysis and death, is a myth.

Acupuncture is one method of Chinese medicine which utilises various points on the body, treating them with needles. Acupressure does the same thing but without needles. Martial artists refer to these commonly as pressure points. The harmful points are the same as the healing points they are just applied differently, sort of like using prescription medication in a harmful way. The kiss of the dragon technique in the movie was made up for the movie.
