I think I know which question you're referring to. When the attacks are as outrageous as these were, there's no way I could take that user personally enough to get annoyed.

Hmmmm, there are a few questions like that. People who post those questions do so just to start an argument. Just hit Unsubscribe from comments and let it be.

People tend to write opinion questions about things that they think they're knowledgeable about. Sometimes they are, don't me wrong. People write it in question form sometimes just so they can have a dissenting viewpoint and they can attack. Makes them feel good about themselves. Sometimes when I answer a question with a controversial answer, I'm afraid to go read my comments, because I don't like being yelled at, but I love it when someone answers very nicely with their viewpoint.

That's my thought pretty much. Sometimes the wording of the question gives away what the persons feelings are toward the subject. I try to avoid, but occasionally play devils advocate.

let me guess ... you're asking this question in hopes of hearing people say they agree with you ... right?

yeah

It seems to me that often these questions are asked for either further 'external validation' or a chance to pontificate in a condescending, superior way when someone's answer is contrary to the questioner's 100% sure opinion, even if the topic is only mildly "controversial". Usually pretty pathetic, imho. These questions used to really 'bug' me @ 1st. Now I can sorta tell up front, so I'll formulate an answer that anticipates the antipathy. I dunno; sometimes I sorta enjoy catching & derriding obvious hypocrisies! ;-)
