  • Can you explain what you mean a bit more? I'm not totally sure what you're asking. If you mean which A Level subject Universities don't hold in as high a regard as others, then it's impossible to generalise. It depends on the degree you're applying to read. For example, when I started to look at Medical courses, I think I can vaguely recall one University counting AS Level General Studies as a legitimate qualification to get on the course. But even that university wouldn't accept A2 General studies as one of the three full A Levels you needed to gain entry. In other words, I suppose General Studies is 'black listed' by most Medical Schools. However, many other courses accept General Studies, in fact, they positively welcome it. Every degree couse has different A Level subject requirements.
  • I don't know, but languages are very favourable

You know probably in your heart of hearts what's soft and what's not. This is just one list although different Universities take different views. For a top 20 uni you really need 3 academic A-levels on a competitive cource.
  • Ok soft A Levels as they are being called are ones that the Universities dont count as being as academically rigorous. Theatre studies, media studies, business studies, film studies, general studies, critical thinking, Travel and tourism and the such are all soft subjects but some Unis (i think the LSE) are saying that A levels like Law are also undesirable but really to find out what Alevls are going to affect your entry you can look on the uni websites for the course you want to study and they will say desirable /undesirable subjects for your course. If your studying more than one of these subjects you in your three alevels then your chances of getting in to a russel group university are limited.
