In the Control Panel click Appearance and Personalization, then modify Windows Sidebar Properties. OR Type Sidebar into the Start Menu search, you'll get two options. Choose the second (Windows Sidebar Properties). In the dialog that pops up, click on the "Start Sidebar when Windows Starts" check box. I can't imagine why anybody would want it enabled but to each their own... That is the first thing I disable if I have to be caught dead using a Vista box.
