  • Rest it. Gargle with salt water. Don't talk or sing for a day or so.
  • Hot tea can be helpful, especially with lemon extract. My grandmother always said that hot tea with whiskey was a good cure. Basically, anything hot, especially with citrus and vitamin C in it, is good for a hoarse throat.
  • I have always found that cough drops help. However, the best remedy is probably to just let your voice rest if you can.
  • Vodka. This actually does work. I bought a Smirnoff Ice at the store the other day because my big sis, a doctor, recommended either vodka or whiskey. Just make sure you chug water afterwards to moisten your throat. Sparrow
  • When you have a hoarse or sore throat, the best thing to do is rest -- don't sing. Don't vocalize. Rest. But, sometimes we have to perform when we feel crappy, don't we? When I feel lousy (sore throat, general malaise) I make some ginger tea with lemon and honey, and drink it all the time, as strong as I can take it -- I even take it in a Thermos to the theatre or rehearsal venue. Here's one way to make it: Slice some fresh ginger root -- a couple of inches is fine. Boil it in water -- I boil it for ten or twenty minutes -- the longer it steeps, the stronger and more potent it is. I drop in a few slices of lemon, too, and maybe a squeeze of the juice. When it's nice and strong, add honey to taste. Sometimes I throw in a few bags of chamomile tea, just for good measure. If you take this in a thermos to your gig, you can dole it out to yourself practically in tablespoonsfull -- it gets stronger the more it sits. I generally leave some of the giner and the tea bags and lemons IN the thermos ... Cheers, Nina
  • Drink lots water, don't abuse your voice (ex. speaking loudly), avoid clearing your throat, it actually does damage, don't eat late at night - the acid from the stomach makes its way up the esophagus when the body is horizontal in sleep, and bathes and irritates the vocal folds greatly. Also, lemons and citris DO help. Lemons actually clean your throat of unwanted mucus residue.
  • Don't sing, don't listen to music, and don't even look at music - or you'll start thinking automatically about the physiological actions required for singing. Rest completely.

  • Usually something simple as Sucrets or another throat lozengers can help. Try not to talk too much, that seems to make it worse. If your throat hurts alot, you may want to see your doctor for a throat culture.
  • If it is hoarse due to a cold or overuse, gargle with warm salt water and don't use it much. Rest it. If you have been hoarse longer than a week, it is best to see a doctor to see if you need some more help with it than you can get with home remedies.
  • Tea tree lozenges are very good, brilliant stuff, tea tree
  • Suck lozenges some of them with honey are good. Or drink some warm water with honey and lemon . If it is sore gargle with salt water and then sooth it with the lozenges or honey
  • Hmm... You should probably try to scare it out. Otherwise, try something like tea with honey or Life Savers, maybe.
