Its impossible because so many people hide it.. and many don't come out.. im bi myself and i know many people that didnt come out.. they would stay with there wifes or whatever.. Now imagen how many are out there.. i would say atleast half of the world. But thats my option
-
Impossible to answer since they are forced to be silent about it for the most part.
-
Since there are so many places in the world where society forces us to hide it, I'd guess that number would actually be higher than 15%...just my personal opinion.

There will never be an accurate number of people categorized as gay, just as there will never be an accurate number of people who have inhaled!
-
It depends on where you live. I mean, San Francisco is going to have more than Alabama
-
I have always heard it to be 10%...slightly more for male, slightly less for female.
-
No.

After 9 11 the figure came out, and I'm sure it's accurate as a cross section of the US, Of the 3800+ killed, 14% had partners who were gay or lesbian, that registered with the NYPD to ID their loved ones. It's believed 10% more were ether not "out" or didn't had partners who registered.

I've worked in demographic research (and I am gay) and I can tell you that there is no survey question that is more likley to elicit a lie than this one. If I had to take a slightly educated guess, I'd say maybe 5% of men are predominantly gay and 2% of women are predominantly lesbian. But that is nothing more than a guess.

We can't really know if homosexuality is stigmatized throughout the world and gay people can easily hide their orientation.
-
It does not matter how many there are. All that matters is thay we pray for them to stop sinning as homosexuality is a sin.

There is no way to tell because there is no way to define "gay." A person cannot be homosexual, that would be physiologically impossible. There are homosexual acts, and there are heterosexual acts. If you are capable of one, you can do the other. Sexual preference is a different matter. One person can be attracted to a member of the opposite sex and also attracted to another individual of the same sex. Individual pheromones may play a large part. The studies always ask different questions. One might ask whether a person ever had a homosexual experience while another may be more specific to preference. Masturbation is as homosexual act as can be, but would you call anyone gay because of it? Also, are folks gay when there is no choice for preference such as in prison or on a pirate ship? You are looking for a number of a stereotype that doesn't exist.

Do be honest i have absolutely no idea.. but the % could change if you includeexclude people that are bi-sexual.. I really think its impossible to get an accurate number.. Anybody feel like counting?
-
The number is probably much higher than 15% Not everyone will be truthful in their response to the surveys.
-
With the way this world is.. i doubt that is possible. In the middle east you can be hung just for liking the same sex. Even in this country, which is supposed to be a shining example of democracy and majority rule minority right, we are far from being equals. They would have to isolate and label a gene that shows homosexuality and test for it. I didn't know i was gay until i hit puberty but I know i have been since birth. Other homosexuals might deny it just because they feel like they will be shunned and hated for having admitted the attraction towards the same sex. There is also problems with finding the "gay gene". If they do find it, many people might then try to "cure" homosexuality. Like it is a disease or something. It would never really make us more equal to the heterosexual community. I think the best weapon against bigotry is education and communication. We need more of that between homosexuals and homophobes in the world. This world would have to be a shining Utopia in order for us to really know how many homosexuals there are in this world. And what if we do find out? What can we do then? It will be a number. Will it bring us any closer together then we already are? I don't see a simple statistic as being important to the LGBT community, nor the world for that matter. We need to stress education and communication between us and them. Until that is done we'll never really be equal in my opinion.

I heard 10%, I would like to think it is lower (Don't take this the wrong way, but it seems like you are more "special" if there is less people like you. To me anyway). I'll stick with 10 to be safe though.
