It sounds like the idle air control sensor or throttle position sensor if so equipped, (not sure which your Honda has but all fuel inj. systems use similar sensors for idle control). These units control idle speed and would produce the symptom you describe.

my '92 toyota tercel did that in cold weather when i suspect the computer could not decide whether the car had warmed up or not... also, i seemed to have a clog in the coolant system somewhere and i was running with less coolant than i should have had :-X

i have a 93 civic that does the exact same thing, i have relpaced the iac sensor and am gonna put on a different throttle body but i dont know if that will help. with mine it seems that if your not accelerating then the engine amoust cuts out

I have a 1989 honda civic si and it does the same thing i find just turning the car off then back on it fix's it but i think its just the automatic choke either warming up the engine or it the automatic choke malfunctioning.
