I have heard of these urban legens before. One out of 10,000 or 100,000 adverse reactions is pretty slim odds. If nobody vaccinated we would again have small pox (a killer), polio (a killer and maimer) and many other emidemics. These are two diseases that went rampant when I was small. Hardly ever hear of anyone haveing one of them lately. I worked with a Pediatrician (MD) who wore a brace on each leg and used crutches from his early teens for the rest of his life. He was lucky, he was alive. Look at statistics for these diseses and others from 1900 to today. You can tell when the vaccines were discovered!!!

I thought I would go ahead and cite this article I found. This scares the hell out of me! http://autismcoach.com/Autism%20Immunization%20Poll.htm

There is currently no scientific, repeatable, statistical evidence to link vaccination of babies/children to, for example, autism. I use autism here as it is the most common fear. You cited an article where 70% of parents asked linked their child's autism with their vaccines. Firstly note that the sample size is 53, which is nothing. Secondly, this question was sent by email, ask yourself who responds to these, it's people who believe the answer is yes. Finally, who cares what the parents think? They have absolutely no idea what caused their child's autism, and I bet that 52 of the 53 that answered had no real scientific knowledge on the subject. This debate is a classic example of how people with no scientific understanding on a subject latching on to a couple of statistically insignificant findings, despite a plethora of contrary information. Just think of it this way- Does the scientific community (the people who develop, study and test these vaccines) believe there is a link between vaccines and autism? Overwhelmingly no. Do those same people believe there is link between not having the vaccines and children dieing? Overwhelmingly yes.

I think its a great idea, prevent disease before it has a chance to start.

This is "new scare" that has directly related 2% of Autism cases to immunizations. Now 2% might not seem like a big deal, especially if you don't have children or your children are past the point of regressing into Autism, but if your child is in that 2% it seems like a big number. I'm not saying I am completely against vaccines, but this does seem like it could be a problem and it may be possible that we are over vaccinating our children. Schedules should be re-evaluated and children should not be overdosed on many vaccines all at once. It does make them sick, and is a stress on their immune system, which is why it works in the first place. But if a stress on the immune system is causing the 2% to regress, I think at the very least there should be a test done BEFORE the child gets the vaccines to determine if they have a mitochondrial dysfunction and are at risk.

In light of the intelligent debate and answers going on now from the above, perhaps we all can be enlightened.

Well all I can say is that I have had all my vaccinations as a baby and I never contracted any children diseases like measles or chicken pocks so I say there is nothing wrong with it and that all children should be protected against disease. But that for peace of mind look up the vaccination and let your local general practitioner keep you up to speed and informed.

Listen. I am sick to the back teeth of the fearmongering. Vaccines are safe. Autism is likely to be on the increase because of environmental factors that no one wants to talk about. In Japan they ceased MMR vaccines and autism increased anyway. http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn7076 It's total wackadoo nonsense that kids get their autism from the vaccines. The MMR does not even contain mercury these days. The substance the radical anti-vac people are so worried about. I have read article after article and no one can prove a direct link. Autism is not a well-understood condition but it's safe to say it is rising in prevalence. Recent research seems to point at the inability of some children to excrete heavy metals they may have been exposed to either in utero or after they are born. Now since the vaccines don't have any heavy metals in them why are they being pointed at? The risks of childhood illness are far more worrisome.

Hello honey. Ok here is my view. The chance of them having negative effects from the shots are so rare that the effects of not getting the shots out weigh them outragiously. Your baby without shots can have very life threatening complications where a lot of things that they are trying to link together when having the shots, isn't usually death but side effects. You can throw these sorts of things in everything. My sister had a daughter born with heart defects and they said it COULD have been caused by us living in the country and the pesticides they put on crops. The environment is unhealthy no doubt, but they can't positively say that this was the reason she died so young. You weigh the pros and cons and you will get your answers you are looking for. BTW I have a daycare and they have to have these shots before they go to any public daycare or school. Unless it is for a religious reason you have to have them done, no questions asked and if you get caught you can get into trouble. Good luck!

If you don't get your child vaccinated, then you can be found a negligent mother, either because your child will get sick with something that could be prevented and it could kill him or because when your child is school aged and you're not able to homeschool him he won't be able to go to public schools and he won't be able to get a decent education. Either way, if you choose not to get the child vaccinated you're gonna lose him. Plus, I can tell you why it's a good idea. My husband got really really sick when he was young. This could have killed him. He had all the childhood diseases (minus polio) at the same time and went into bad convulsions. The fever could have killed him. Yet it probably could have been prevented if his shots had been given at the proper times. If anyone should say vaccines are necessary, it's me.

We recently took our daughter to get her shots. She was perfectly healthy prior to the vaccines. Within 24 hours she was temporarily paralyzed (about 8 hours) due to an allergic reaction. The paralysis cleared on its own, but the next day she got ancilliary measles. Her body was covered in spots from toes to scalp. She had a fever for 4 days and lost 4 pounds due to her inability to eat. If I had a choice, I would not have gotten her immunized. Unfortunately, day care and schools require them.

There may be the papers and the school may have to accept them but it doesn't mean they have to accept your kid who could be a health risk. I hope you are found to be a negligent mother.

Well...for how much mercury is in each shot you have to be somewhere between 200 to 250 pounds to handle it. And they are giving them to little babies knowing this?! Along with that autism wasn't a big thing until they made shots a mandatory thing for the school districts. We recently just had like 3 babies, in our area, die within a day or two of getting their vaccines. At first they said it was just coinsidence but later, said the shot was too much for their bodies.

Been to the Dr now. Everything was fine. She wasn't at all mad at me. And we are working with my fear of the vaccines. She totally understood my fear. She knew about the recent scare and said that it was valid but that a child with mitochondrial dysfunction would most likely show signs of have the dysfunction even at a year old. I told her I wanted him to have them, I just wanted them broke up in to 2's instead of 4's and it is not at all necessary for him to have the Chicken Pox shot. A smaller percentage of children get encephalitis from not getting the vaccine than the kids that end up with complications, be it extremely high fevers, paralyzation, or even the suspicion of Autism, and it is not required by ANY state! Not to mention that my second son had that shot, and got CP anyway! BTW, it is not illegal to not get your kids vaccinated. Only private day cares can reject you. Even if your kids do get sick at some point and it could have been prevented. Truth is its your choice and do you get in trouble if you choose to get them vaccinated and they do get sick from the vaccine, because we know the doctors don't.

...With autismn rising...Do I trust them shooting stuff that I dont know what it is in my kids??? No...I dont get em. "religious reasons" - I guess....
