diesel is more efficient and diesel engines last much longer nad have fewer mechanical problems over time.

Gasoline. It is cheaper at the pump and it burns cleaner.

There is no simple answer to this question.

Diesel fuel has a slightly higher energy content per unit of volume, and diesel engines have a higher thermodynamic efficiency than gasoline engines (although the gap is narrowing).

On the other hand, gasoline combustion produces less smog-forming emissions, and a larger proportion of a barrel of crude oil can be refined into gasoline than can be refined into crude oil.

Gasoline is also less prone to water contamination, bacterial contamination, and 'gelling' in cold weather (all problems associated with diesel fuel).

You need to narrow the parameters of your question to get a definitive answer.

diesels last much longer and are more efficient but if you live in a cold climate diesel can freeze and vehicle won't start
