Why is it that getting injured in the testicles causes pain in the lower abdominal area rather than in the testicles themselves?

I can't quite believe I've spent the last 20 minutes researching this, but there we are! Before a man is born his testicles are formed in the abdomen and descend to the scrotum through the inguinal canal, a passageway that passes over the pelvic bone. They drag behind them a bundle of nerves, arteries, veins and tubes connecting the testes to the rest of the body.
