I have a hard algae growing on the tank sides and rocks that my algae eater won't eat and I can't scrape off. I don't want it to etch my new tank! What can I do?

how do you scrape it? I use a hard toothbrush and that seems to work. But I've been avoiding the silicone corner areas for fear of breaking that seal. I'd rather have a green trim than a leaky tank.
