For all you contact wearers out there!!! Do contact lenses have a specified "right eye' and 'left eye'? or can they be worn in either eye? and if you get them mixed up how can you tell them apart?

If the perscriptions are the same for both eyes, then no. But if the perscriptions are different for each eye, then yes.

The answer is NO! The same lens will work fine in the left eye as it does in the right.

    BUT....

Be careful with the power of the lens. My right eye needs +4.75 but my left only +3.00 so I need to always have the right lens in the right eye and vice versa. Assuming both your eyes are the same strength and there is no other sickness in the eye then there should be no problem with which eye the lens goes in.

Best to talk to your optician.

Personally I don't have a problem because of my astigmatism in my left eye. That means my contacts for the left eye are larger than the regular nearsightedness for my right eye. So *whew* I don't have much worries there...but when I started wearing them I put both in one eye.

Yep, mine have a right and a left.. the prescription is different for each eye, luckily enough if i put them in the wrong eye i know straight away as one of my eyes (right) is much worse than the left.. so i cant see a thing if i put the wrong lens in there! Also as i have an 'astigmatism' in one eye the bottom of the lens is weighted so they sit properly when in my eye, it doesnt sit comfortably on the wrong eye.

Yes... They are usually specified right and left.

For example, I had an astigmatism in my right eye, so THAT eye's was made to handle it.

I could SEE well in ONE eye with them switched, but the other was blurry (my left eye is weaker, so the prescription was stronger).

The best way to tell, if your prescriptions are VERY different for each eye, is to cover one, and see if you can read what you normally would be able to (say the scroll words on CNN or MSNBC), then switch eyes and see if it's clear. If it seems a little off on one of them, try to switch them, and see what happens. If it's clearer, you had them switched, if it's worse, you probably had them right, and are only experiencing a buildup of matter (think Sleep that forms in the corners of your eyes at night).

it doesnt really matter but you should wear the same contact in each eye and not switch them up because the contact gets the shape of your eyes ball and them when u reuse the contact each day its more comfertable

    Done. never again.

They do if you have a different prescription for each eye. If not, contact lenses are the same for each eye. Not like shoes. ;)

it depends on your perscription for me my eyes are two completely different perscriptions and usually if u mix them up u can tell because u wont see properly but if ur perscription is the same then u will be fine

Your contacts will normally be the same size and diameter. The only difference is the power of the lenses. You can usually tell if you have the powers mixed up because your vision will be off.

Contact Lenses need to be marked right and left only if the two eyes are different according to the consultant to http://www.coloredcontacts.com

One way to tell if they are on the wrong eye is if one eye is clearer than the other. If so then put the lenses on the opposit eyes and if the eyes see about the same now they were reversed and now they are on correctly.
