You're reading Why don't the government just make some more money at the money making company and give it to the gas people so that gas will be cheaper for everyone?
Comments
EXACTLY.

But since its the government making the extra money to spend it only on gas so that it will help everyone out, how could that happen?
by wannabenewman-confused on May 13th, 2008
It still increases the money supply. If the money is given to the gas companies, they'll use it to pay their employees. Thus, it enters the money supply and inflation occurs.

So why is gas so high? We should spend it on whatever the problem is!
by wannabenewman-confused on May 13th, 2008
Their getting money already which is ours, so if the government would do it to help everyone, wouldnt that work?
by wannabenewman-confused on May 13th, 2008
No, it wouldn't. Not remotely. It you had $5 more but everything else cost $7 more, you'd be worse off, right? That's what would end up happening. Injecting money into the economy sometimes helps, but is often quite dangerous. Giving to the gas companies would be VERY dangerous. The money would probably end up in Saudi hands and then our foreign debt would continue to skyrocket.

But wouldnt it be nice if all of that could work! Or what about the government giving the money that they give to people who choose not to work or to some of these roads that dont need it at all and put that into gas so that it helps everyone, not just the people who arent working! Money is going to be given to the gas people anyways, why not help everyone out and make it cheaper?!? But I do see what you are saying! Thank you!

Welfare and unemployment money comes from taxes. They don't create it out of thin air. If they were to tax you and then give that to the gas companies, that'd be terrible, in my opinion.
by EL1 2 on May 13th, 2008
Oh, so the people who live off of welfare already payed for it? Or do the rich people pay for it? If the rich people pay for it, then I think that it should go to gas unstead of people who choose not to work!?!
by wannabenewman-confused on May 13th, 2008
Everyone pays for it. That's what some of your federal taxes go to. And it's usually not people who choose not to work. It's people who are unable to work, or who need to support a bunch of children and cannot do so.
Economic theory suggests that welfare systems when properly implemented do not discourage people from working.
by EL1 2 on May 13th, 2008
Im talking about the ones who choose not to work! I know that their are people who are unable to work and I understand that, but for the ones who choose not to...
by wannabenewman-confused on May 13th, 2008
I'm sure some of them manage to steal welfare from the government. It's not a very happy lifestyle, though.
by EL1 2 on May 14th, 2008
I think unstead of our taxes going to people who choose not to work, our taxes should go toward gas prices to help everyone-working, non-working, disabled, ect!
by wannabenewman-confused on May 14th, 2008
Not everyone uses gas. I think that the government shouldn't decide how we spend our money. I don't have a car, so that wouldn't help me at all. If anything, more tax money should go into alternative fuel research.
by EL1 2 on May 15th, 2008
yea, that would be good too!
