  • I know a few people who would agree that they are, including myself, although i don't get to see brand new episodes due to a lack of digital tv. *sobs* I assume the problem is different writers. For example: i saw an episode last year called "Mountain of Madness" by John Swartzwelder and i found it had much fewer and less funny gags in it than other older episodes.
  • This is the last season and the last new episode show airs May 2006. They lost some of the back ground people before the season began. I guess its hard to comtinually be funny. The show was really geared towards, given some of the jokes. I for one will miss the show.
  • Comedy is subjective, so it depends on who you ask what answer you will get here. In my opinion, it was only funny for the first few seasons and hasn't been very funny since. Conan O'Brien used to be one of the writers and it had not been as good since he left. Rent the older ones and you will see... And, the person who said this was its last year was wrong. It has been been renewed through next season (2007-2008) and FOX has said it will remain on the network as long as the people who make it will stay. • Well yes they are getting less funny, but that's just a small part of it, people have also gotten kind of desensitized to their humor, it's now just like hearing the same joke over and over again.
  • Yeah, I only like the early seasons. But then again, I am more of a futurama fan....futurama, which got cancelled, and if it hadnt I think the humor would have gotten dilluted as well.
  • Hell yeah! I don't even watch that throw back anymore.
  • No, I don't think so. Whenever I watch the simpsons it makes me laugh all time. LOL
  • I think the Simpson's writers are out of touch with the current generation.
  • It is amazing the number of comments on this. You would think more people would have better insight on more worthwhile things. LOL! My thought; the simpsons were never funny!
  • I think as we are getting older the simpsons might be getting less funny to us but if we were they age that we used to watch it and watched it now we might find it funny, it also depends in what frame of mind you are in, i dont laugh at anything if im sad or angry. but if im in a childish mood or what not then ill find things funny when they are supposed to be.
  • It is the natural cycle of things. EVERYthing gets less funny over time, because one of the elements of humor is surprise. That is why no sitcom lasts forever, no matter how funny it is.
  • IMHO, yes. It has been a steady decline for the last five or so seasons. The current generation of viewers needs more catchy "gags" and funny plot twists to keep their attention. I've found that the new episodes are chock full of flashy pop-culture references, with less emphasis placed on the underlying family themes and plot lines. I have been watching the Simpsons for as long as I can remember. It's disappointing that one of the most groundbreaking shows of our time has been slowly destroyed by the growing need for more exciting entertainment. The humor on the whole seems more slapstick (only not good slapstick) and less intelligent. What happened to the Simpsons that were a parody of the everyday American nuclear family?
  • For the most part, this year of the Simpsons is definately less funny. It still makes me laugh but the scripts don't seem as good. The thing that makes The Simpsons great though is how long this tv show has lasted. In 1989, Fox was only starting to be a television network (if memory serves me right, they only aired their programming on three nights back then). The Simpsons is an overall success in television history, even if the jokes don't work as well as they use to.
  • Yes. I find increasingly difficult to raise a laugh from them. Not to fear, 'Family Guy' is right on the money.
  • well it depends on what episode cuz there r different people riting it each time so its just by peoples sense of humor....and there r different ppl...soo yeah i think THAT is why...but i would think that its just staying neutral on the same level
  • Yes, i think it is. Plus now we have family guy and south park, which are what the simpsons used to be; consistently funny.
  • I don't think so. Everytime I watch the show I am still entertained enough to want to watch the next week.
  • Yes is it becoming less funny. Although they say The Simpsons Movie ,which is to air in cinemas everywhere on june 27 2007, is going to be the funniest and The End of the Long-Running show, possibly the characters will be killed off or something, im not really sure about the plot though.
  • I find that the Simpsons, having been on the air for close to 20 years, still manage to draw quite the crowd to the TV. Although so episodes just flat out suck, they do still have a good one here and there. But what do you expect? Twenty years of making people laugh, they gotta run outta jokes sooner or later. Either way, still one of my favorite shows.
  • I don't think the Simpsons is getting less funny at all, that show keeps my laughing like hell. If the episodes do start to get lses funny, can you blame them? That show has been going on for over ten years now, over 15 I think. They have to be running out of story plots by now.
  • oh the simpsons are just the best hehe buton sky one they play the old1s over and over agian which is getting a bit boring!!! tbh, id rather watch family guy and south park hehe x
  • yes ever since the simsons movie
  • The more you watch something the less funnier it gets.
