I wouldn't go if I were you. Not just because it is the middle east but I wouldn't go to any foreign country were I didn't know the language to meet someone for the first time. If something happens how are you going to get help? Not only that but you will have to deal with 3 little kids at the same time. This just smells way to much of trouble. Why can your fiance' come to where you live. He obviously understands English.

I think that Jordan would be safe. There is too much negative hype about that area.Your fiance is a local so I can understand the issue of safety.

As a Jordanian I can tell you that Jordan is quite safe for Americans. You can always check the US Department of State travel bullitin about Jordan at : http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1149.html The report is general and include detailed listings of individual incidents. But you should not be worry about security in Jordan. The last attack we had was three years ago and it targeted local Jordanian not foreigners. To be on the safe side, register you name and address with the Department of States so that the American embassy can get hold of you in case of an emergency. You can do that at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/ Also here are some necessary numbers to know: 1- Police: 191 2- American embassy: 5906000 Jordan is a nice country and I'm sure you will like it. Good luck.

I did the same thing in December 2007. I met my Jordanian fiance' for the first time in Egypt & then we travelled to Jordan. My family was scared for me. But, I must tell you "Jordanian" comments above are correct! I registered with the US Embassy Amman online before I left, and I kept the US Embassy's phone number with me at all times! Honestly, I didn't travel with children...but Jordan is a VERY safe country! And, believe it or not, the Jordanians will watch out for you. Even though I don't speak the language, they will do what they can to understand you & help you. King Abdullah keeps Jordan very modernized & clean & free of crime. I felt much safer in Jordan than I did in Egypt! You must visit Petra & Wadi Rum & Jesus' Baptism site! They were ALL amazing & really will be in my heart forever! Best of Luck to you & let me know if you'd like to chat about it sometime on yahoo messenger. When is your trip planned?
