Help answer this question below.
Freedom of choice.
If someone raped my wife and got her pregnant, should she be forced to keep it?
I find it extremely wrong and a way for people to be able to keep being irresponsible for their actions.
Think BEFORE you have sex.
Very deeply wrong. As bad as killing a live baby.
I'm pro choice
Isn't condemning people a sin?
For those who don't agree with abortion-do something about it; stop flaming people online and go out and make a fucking difference.
I believe in a Women's right to choose.
Not in my opinion. Some people will tell you otherwise. Ultimately, I think you need to search your own heart and mind and determine for yourself.
Besides, if you feel you messed up God forgives right?
+5
I favor Bill Clinton's formulation of 'safe, legal and rare'. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be getting particularly rare though.
.
Legal abortion is the least worst policy.
I've given indepth answers so many times on here. Here's the short version:
immoral
I believe it's a womens right.
Don't have one -- and don't make it illegal!!
A women has the right to choose. Science can document that Three cells are not a life. It becomes wrong once the fetus has a Brain and can feel pain. Three cells have no Heart, no Brain and no sense of awareness. They are not sentient. All arguments that dispute this are illogical nonsense.
I think it's right and it's common sense. While the argument that it's murder is valid in many respects, I believe the world is overpopulated anyway. If some crackhead woman wants to abort her crackbaby, I am not going to stop her. I think if the woman knows she is going to neglect and abuse her kid the whole time it is growing up she should be aloud to abort it if she wants. And what if a women gets raped and gets pregnant? Who are you to say she can't abort that evil spawn if she wants too. She should be aloud to kill the rapist too. lol... I look forward to your negative ratings. My opinion will not change.
A million times YES
I think it is wrong because it fundamentally goes against human morals. Some reasons why:
1. All life is sacred. Whether you are religious or not, you cannot dispute this. By taking someone else's life into our own hands we violate this. Which leads me to my next point.
2. The fetus has the same human rights as you or I. He or she has just as much of a right to live as anyone else on this earth, because they are just as much human. This is something many people overlook.
3. To the people saying, "It is better for them to be dead than to live a crappy life." So you don't think that baby would not have enjoyed life at all? I know a lot of poor people, and I know a lot of rich people. Guess what? The poor people are equally happy as the rich people. I don't know exactly why, but I would imagine it is because we find joy in non-material things. The poor and the rich are equal when it comes to owning non-material things, and actually sometimes the poor have more. To say they would not be happy because they would be poor is shallow and materialistic. I am sure they would have enjoyed life just as much as you or I.
4. Testimony of abortion survivor Gianna Jessen before the Constitution Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee on April 22, 1996:
"My name is Gianna Jessen. I am 19 years of age. I am originally from California, but now reside in Franklin, Tennessee. I am adopted. I have cerebral palsy. My biological mother was 17 years old and seven and one-half months pregnant when she made the decision to have a saline abortion. I am the person she aborted. I lived instead of died.
Fortunately for me the abortionist was not in the clinic when I arrived alive, instead of dead, at 6:00 a.m. on the morning of April 6, 1977. I was early, my death was not expected to be seen until about 9 a.m., when he would probably be arriving for his office hours. I am sure I would not be here today if the abortionist would have been in the clinic as his job is to take life, not sustain it. Some have said I am a "botched abortion", a result of a job not well done.
There were many witnesses to my entry into this world. My biological mother and other young girls in the clinic, who also awaited the death of their babies, were the first to greet me. I am told this was a hysterical moment. Next was a staff nurse who apparently called emergency medical services and had me transferred to a hospital.
I remained in the hospital for almost three months. There was not much hope for me in the beginning. I weighed only two pounds. Today, babies smaller than I was have survived.
A doctor once said I had a great will to live and that I fought for my life. I eventually was able to leave the hospital and be placed in foster care. I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a result of the abortion.
My foster mother was told that it was doubtful that I would ever crawl or walk. I could not sit up independently. Through the prayers and dedication of my foster mother, and later many other people, I eventually learned to sit up, crawl, then stand. I walked with leg braces and a walker shortly before I turned age four. I was legally adopted by my foster mother's daughter, Diana De Paul, a few months after I began to walk. The Department of Social Services would not release me any earlier for adoption.
I have continued in physical therapy for my disability, and after a total of four surgeries, I can now walk without assistance. It is not always easy. Sometimes I fall, but I have learned how to fall gracefully after falling 19 years.
I am happy to be alive. I almost died. Every day I thank God for life. I do not consider myself a by-product of conception, a clump of tissue, or any other of the titles given to a child in the womb. I do not consider any person conceived to be any of those things.
I have met other survivors of abortion. They are all thankful for life. Only a few months ago I met another saline abortion survivor. Her name is Sarah. She is two years old. Sarah also has cerebral palsy, but her diagnosis is not good. She is blind and has severe seizures. The abortionist, besides injecting the mother with saline, also injects the baby victims. Sarah was injected in the head. I saw the place on her head where this was done. When I speak, I speak not only for myself, but for the other survivors, like Sarah, and also for those who cannot yet speak ...
Today, a baby is a baby when convenient. It is tissue or otherwise when the time is not right. A baby is a baby when miscarriage takes place at two, three, four months. A baby is called a tissue or clumps of cells when an abortion takes place at two, three, four months. Why is that? I see no difference. What are you seeing? Many close there eyes...
The best thing I can show you to defend life is my life. It has been a great gift. Killing is not the answer to any question or situation. Show me how it is the answer.
There is a quote which is etched into the high ceilings of one of our state's capitol buildings. The quote says, "Whatever is morally wrong, is not politically correct." Abortion is morally wrong. Our country is shedding the blood of the innocent. America is killing its future.
All life is valuable. All life is a gift from our Creator. We must receive and cherish the gifts we are given. We must honor the right to life."
5. It is not a painless way to end the fetus's life. To put a fetus through the kinds of torture it can go through during an abortion is sick and inhumane.
From a letter to President Reagan from the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology:
"Real time ultrasonography, fetoscopy, study of the fetal EKG (electrocardiogram) and fetal EEG (electroencephalogram) have demonstrated the remarkable responsiveness of the human fetus to pain, touch, and sound. That the fetus responds to changes in light intensity within the womb, to heat, to cold, and to taste (by altering the chemical nature of the fluid swallowed by the fetus) has been exquisitely documented in the pioneering work of the late Sir William Lily — the father of fetology."
Taken from this website http://www.abortionfacts.com/.../..._them_both_14.asp
"A Realtime ultrasound video tape and movie of a 12- week suction abortion is commercially available as, The Silent Scream, narrated by Dr. B. Nathanson, a former abortionist. It dramatically, but factually, shows the pre-born baby dodging the suction instrument time after time, while its heartbeat doubles in rate. When finally caught, its body being dismembered, the baby’s mouth clearly opens wide — hence, the title (available from Heritage House '76 at http:www.heritagehouse76.com). Proabortionists have attempted to discredit this film. A well documented paper refuting their charges is available from National Right to Life, 419 7th St. NW, Washington, DC 20004, $2.00 p.p. A short, 10-minute video showing the testimony of the doctor who did the abortion in Silent Scream definitely debunks any criticism of Silent Scream’s accuracy. The Answer, Bernadel, Inc., P.O. Box 1897, Old Chelsea Station, New York, NY, 10011."
Now tell me you didn't feel sorry for that fetus while you read that. Tell me it would have been better off if Gianna was dead. That is why abortion is so wrong. We fail to think about the fetus, about ITS rights, ITS feelings, not ours. To those who are 'Pro-choice:' What if the fetus had a choice? What do you think it would choose?
Thank you for your time (assuming you read this whole thing). If you agree or disagree with me about anything, then please comment respectfully, and I will comment respectfully back.
That its ultimately the womens choice and us(men) have no real comprehension about what it takes to make this kind of decision. That being said, I am totally against it being used as a form of birth control.
back alley abortions in mexico are the safest alternative!
its a woman right to choose, her body
One word MURDER
I think its wrong and its murder
I've answered the question so many times here on AB, I'm just going to say it is morally wrong.
It's legal. There are reasons it needs to be legal. End of story.
What bothers me are the people who cry "Murder", when they are the same people who speak out against sex education in school ("Don't talk to MY children about sex!"), making contraception available in school nurses' offices ("Now they're CONDONING immoral activity!"), and socialised healthcare ("I'M not paying for someone ELSE to get birth control pills!"). These SAME people then demand their uneducated teenagers carry these unwanted children to term (guess who pays for THOSE deliveries, over 1/2 of which will be via c-section at $10,000+ a pop?), so the children can possibly be adopted - but ONLY by good, God-fearing, married, straight, financially secure couples. Then, when all those kids that MIGHT have been adopted by single people or gay couples become uneducated teenagers, we have a whole OTHER round of unwanted pregnancies for your health insurance premiums to ultimately fund!
it should be illegal unless you can prove you were raped.
that about the only time its acceptable.
when you have sex, your pretty much saying that your ready for a baby.
if your not ready then dont have sex
its that easy
i hate them girls that use abortion like its birth control
one of the things that pisses me off the most
It's not bad or good. It's an option for women in difficult situations; who were raped, who can't afford a pregnancy or a child, who have diseases, etc
Is killing an innocent person good or bad? Hmmmm. Well, sometimes it's necessary? They might be inconvenient, expensive, the wrong sex, whatever.
Nope.
Abortion is one of the easiest ways to kill people. Fetuses have not been known to carry weapons, and are poorly trained in hand-to-hand combat. Some day it will be legal to kill any age person in order to protect your freedom of choice. But until then, you'll have to make do with killing the tiny ones.
People keep using this word "freedom" when talking about choice, what about the freedom to live?
ending a LIFE.....
I don't like it. However you rationalize it, it's killing a baby in his or her early stages. Any mother of a beautiful child can say,"I had the power to kill him or her in the womb if I didn't want the kid before being born. It's barbaric and facile, and the pro-choice arguments in my opinion are illogical and stupid.
It exists and is the basis of way to many discussions by polarised people trying to change someones opinion to match their own.
It's murder. Murder going by other words is still murder. Some have to make financial choices. Many choose money over life it has been aparent in the history of so called civilization. Some pregnancies are from rapes in this situation it is still murder. It is a good argument for an abortion. I can understand in this situation the difficult decision to make. In the end it is still murder. On the other hand the whole USA was claimed by murdering the native american. Civilizations are built on murder.
I'm against it, it's killing babies :(
It ends the life of a separate, genetically human (ie, "human"), and genetically distinct being, so it should only be allowed if to continue the pregnancy would endanger the life of the mother.
Inhumane unless it's to save the life of the mother, which accounts for about 1% of abortions. 98% of the time, it's a convenient way to get rid of a kid you don't want.
i think that, except in a few very select instances, it is very mean and selfish.
It is an abomination. It is no better a choice than to take a gun and blow someone's head off. Society accepts it because society is blinded by Satan.
Go ahead and DR me I don't care.
But keep in mind that if you have had an abortion that I'm not saying you're bad or condemned. You just have to acknowledge that it was wrong, and ask for forgiveness. Don't try to fool yourself into thinking it was acceptable.
I am pro choice ... it is and should be up to the woman in all cases, her body, her life...her choice!
It should be safe and available.
The state should not have any control over what women do with their bodies, and it's a slippery slope from regulating abortion to regulating birth control afterwards.
Abortion is none of my business.
Of course it's not "good." But at times it is necessary. So is giving women the rights over their own bodies.
I am pro-life. Aside from the moral question, I think abortion is symbolic of our society making it easy for people to not take responsibility for their actions.
If it's not morally wrong, there's no reason to limit them in number or age. If it's not morally wrong once, it's not morally wrong 1000 times. I don't understand why people say it's OK as long as they don't continue to get them.
To loosely quote Hillary Clinton, abortion should be:
Safe
Legal
and rare.
And I'd also like to add "available" to that list.
I think abortion is disgusting in most cases.
You get pregnant, it's unplanned, and how are you going to deal with it? By not dealing with it at all?
How is it that kid's fault that you made a mistake? Right. You don't want a child for whatever reason, you feel incapable, you aren't financially secure.
But that baby is an individual person, and aborting it is destroying a creation that can never and will never be in existance again.
What gives anyone the right to perform such an act?
If you screwed up and you don't want a baby, PERFORM AN ACT OF GOOD WILL and give your baby away to a family who cannot have a baby due to infertility.
However, in the case of rape obviously, abortion is much more acceptable.
I feel that it is wrong because you are killing something that is innocent and has done nothing, and why? because you just dont want it and it seems easier to kill it? thats selfish. and as for "what if i was raped, i shouldnt have to keep it" so your saying its not my fault so lets kill it? (ex.)-if someone sets a baby on your front door step, you say its not your fault, so just kill it?? if you were raped that doesnt mean you should kill someone that didnt do anything, just take it to the orphanage please.
Everyone here was once in the womb. and i am very glad my parents didnt decided they didnt want me and kill me.
and please dont give me negative points just because you dont agree with my answer please.
I don't think so but if it is I am sure God can deal with it without anyone's help.
My opinion is it's more than a matter of opinion, it's a matter of life and death.
It's not my business.
If you believe abortion is murder AND happen to support abortion, are you against suicide? Why or why not?

Yes lets kill the child who had nothing to do with it.He would be guilty of rape and you would be guilty of murder. Also a very low percentage of abortions are because of rape. The highest percentage are selfish reasons.
by Jesus is God on September 28th, 2009
Like High Shaman says, Morning After Pill. If you are too lazy to take the precautions asap, then you pretty much already made the decision to keep the child(in my opinion).
by Dirty-Jarvis on September 28th, 2009
It's funny that the people that are against my answer are all males.
Ask your wife/girlfriend/sister/mother/whomever, that if she got brutally raped and impregnated, left for dead, and if she survived the horrible circumstances and it was too late to take the morning after pill, whether she would want to keep the fetus that half belongs to the rapist.
All I'm saying is that in this situation, the woman should have to right to decide whether to keep it or not. You who are against me are forcing her to keep it without her consideration or input.
Also, if you force your wife to keep it, remember that every time you look into that child's eyes, that the child is not biologically yours but to the rapist's.
by Hayzen on October 21st, 2009
Why doesn't the fetus get a choice? I get that it can't speak for itself, but what would it say if it could? Also, what if you were aborted because your mother decided that because she simply did not want you and had the 'freedom' to choose not to have you, she aborted you?
As for the rape part, I know people who are the sons/daughters of mothers who were raped. I can assure you that they value any sort of life over being aborted.
I am not saying I am against abortion. I am not saying I am for it. I am saying that your reasoning is flawed.
by crdto7 on November 2nd, 2009
Right on crdto. The whole pro-choice opinion is flawed.
by Dirty-Jarvis on November 12th, 2009
Exactly.
by crdto7 on November 14th, 2009
@ Diry-Jarvis and crdto7 - So a woman who finds herself unwillingly pregant for WHATEVER reason should be forced to carry the pregnancy to term and give birth. Would you be willing to adopt that child? If your answer is NO, then just stay the fuck out of it. Or get a vasectomy.
by EvangelineOFire on November 29th, 2009
Why are you putting the 'right' of a women to do what she wants with her body over the fetus's right to life? I think the latter is much more important.
And I would adopt the child if I wasn't 15. Plus, there are plenty of couples out there looking to adopt.
And define 'unwillingly pregnant.' Because if she gets wasted at a party and finds herself pregnant, then an abortion shouldn't be an easy way out of that situation.
by crdto7 on November 29th, 2009
crdto7, if you truly are 15, I would love the opportunity to speak with your parents and thank them for raising a child with moral value. See, the problem with today's society is that America's women, just like everyone else who feels they're a minority, always want more; even if that means more than everyone else. What people are failing to see is that we are not heartless, we have agreed, or at least I have, that there is the morning after pill and that if a girl is raped she should have the right to it because the pregnancy wasn't her fault. The issue with abortion is that the majority of females that get abortions are younger that 24 and do it for social reasons: Why women have abortions
1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient).
by Dirty-Jarvis on November 30th, 2009
Pro-life believers say something about abortion and pro-choice advocates go straight for "What is a woman is raped" excuse. Pro-life as I may be if a woman is raped, I believe that if she wants flush her system within the first 18 days(after 18 days the fetus has a heartbeat), then so be it. If the woman's life is in danger, I think the choice should be between the mother. But all be damned if I woman should make the choice to spread her legs and have to deal with the consequences. In the past couple years, the idea that because men sleep around it should be as socially acceptable for women to do the same has come about. Let's face it, it isn't right for men to sleep around but we are sexual creatures and struggle with controlling ourselves. Women don't have the same issues that men do, plain and simple and have been putting out more and more because they think it will make them fit in. So they have sex, get pregnant, and want to take the easy way out.
by Dirty-Jarvis on November 30th, 2009
This is taking the easy way out, and I can't believe so many people find this acceptable. It's pathetic. Taking a human life because is inconvenient. How about you just stop spreading your legs, because if you did it wouldn't happen. It is as simple as that. And to "EvangelineOFire", with the statistics showing that most girls/women that have abortions just because of inconvenience, how would men getting vasectomies make sense? Seriously, you tell us that we don't need a condom because you are on birth control and then come to find out you forgot to take it that morning, or it failed in general(news flash it's not 100% affective). The even funnier thing is that the same women who believe that abortion is a women's right issue are the same women who think they should be able to sleep around and still get nothing but respect from their peers. Are you people starting to see how ridiculous this is?
by Dirty-Jarvis on November 30th, 2009
To finish this off, to "Hayzen" who said "It's funny that the people that are against my answer are all males", yes I'm a man, I'm also married with a 2 year old, and my wife agrees with me completely. I want everyone who reads this to understand that pro-choicers fixate only on pushing woman's rights for abortions due to rape/incest(which accounts for a small amount of abortions) pro-lifers are concerned with the fact that women use abortion as a means for contraceptive and abortions go all the way to the 3rd tri-mester. Pro-choicers bring up the what-ifs when it comes to whether or not the womans life could be at stake, when 99% of the time that is not an issue, while pro-lifers focus on both the mother and the baby's life. So, just because you think that it is a woman's body, be logical, leave out the financial costs(because a person's life's worth shouldn't be based on money), and look at everything.

Still waiting for a female to voice her opinion on this ...
by Hayzen on December 1st, 2009
I know plenty women and girls who agree with me. And just because we are men doesn't mean our opinions don't matter. In fact, unlike most women, men actually look at the fetus' side as well.
by crdto7 on December 1st, 2009
Why does everything have to be about opinions. The women who speak out are going to be pro-choice because most conservatives don't voice their opinions. The problem with the whole debate is to many people throwing out their opinions and not enough facts. What is so important about irrational opinions that are based off of nothing but desire. This debate is way too important to ride on opinions.
by Dirty-Jarvis on December 2nd, 2009
Dirty-Jarvis:
If your wife cheated on you and your 2 year old is in fact is not yours, can you honestly easily accept that?
If your wife was brutally raped and your 2 year old is in fact is not yours, can you honestly easily accept that?
Regardless of what your answer is, there are people who cannot accept that especially the latter situation and they should be allowed the option to not have the unborn child because the situation was beyond their control.
crdto7:
I also know plenty of women/girls that don't agree with you. What my point is, I'm not saying men's opinions don't matter, I'm saying this debate is one-sided because only men are answering. So when people read this, all they see is men (you guys) dictating what women can/cannot do.
I'm saying women should not be forced to do something that they don't want to do especially if the situation was out of their hands (i.e. Raped).
by Hayzen on December 3rd, 2009
Thank you for that Hayzen. Of course a man's opionion matters, but I honestly have more respect for the opinion of the man who is actually IN this situation as opposed to the one who is not and/or, presumably, never will be.
by EvangelineOFire on December 4th, 2009
Hayzen:
Your questions are misleading. Of course he wouldn't easily accept those situations, and neither would you. However, I know he, you, I, and every other good-hearted person in this world would accept that child. That child did nothing wrong, and saying they should die because you didn't conceive them is selfish and just plain ridiculous. There is absolutely no reason for that child to die. You might want your wife to die if she cheated, and you would want the rapist to die, but you would not want the child to die and you know that. Sorry to butt in on those questions.
by crdto7 on December 4th, 2009
As for what you said to me:
I bet you do know a lot of females who support abortion; I know a lot, too. My point was that not all females support abortion.
You're right. Any female reading this, please offer your opinion respectfully either way.
I'm not saying what they can/cannot do, because I cannot do that. However, i can say what they should/should not do, which IS what I'm saying.
Rape accounts for roughly 1% (most likely less) of abortions. Yep, 1%. Check out the link at the end of this post, and don't use 'what ifs'
Isn't it courageous to have the baby whether you want it or not? You can't deny that if you met a woman who had gone through the troubles of childbirth even though she didn't want the baby, you would have a lot more respect for her than if she had an abortion. Wouldn't you have more respect? I know I would, since I actually know people who have done that. Sometimes we must do things we don't want to, simply because it is the right thing to do.

And in case you were wondering, it didn't take me 20 minutes to come up with that answer lol. Answerbag has been really weird posting my comments recently.
by crdto7 on December 4th, 2009
Not to mention, I don't disagree with the morning after pill. How many times do I have to say morning after pill. I feel like pro-choicers will only be satisfied if everyone agrees with full out abortions at any point of pregnancy. My wife agrees with what I'm saying, so you can count my thoughts as both a man's and a woman's opinion. Once again, we need to stop focusing on the "what if she is raped", we have answered that, multiple times, so lets focus on how everyone feels about the 93% of abortions where they are done because the child is an inconvenience. And Evangeline, you respect the opinion of a women more than a man when truth is most women don't know the experience of an abortion? And have alittle less incite than a man, since as crdto7 and I have stated, men tend to look at both sides and most women will show more of a slender point of view on this subject.
by Dirty-Jarvis on December 4th, 2009
crdto7, you're going to go far in life
by Dirty-Jarvis on December 4th, 2009
Amen, Dirty-Jarvis!!!!! I hate when people try to argue a point by saying "What if?" Well what if the baby that was aborted was actually conceived by Chuck Norris, and thus was destined to become The Supreme Ruler of the Earth? What if he/she had super-powers? -that was a joke if you didn't catch it.
.
And thanks Dirty Jarvis. :D
by crdto7 on December 4th, 2009
Neglected the first part of your response Hayzen, plain and simple, If my wife cheated on me and my son wouldn't have been mine, either 1. she wouldn't be my wife anymore and 2. I would have known he wasn't mine(DNA test). With that, it wouldn't be my problem. Like crdto7, the child did nothing wrong in either case and no harm should come to him/her. Once again though, please do not bring up rape again, it has gotten old, our opinions have already been given, lets move on.
by Dirty-Jarvis on December 4th, 2009
Lol crdto7, a little extreme but yeah. Here is a "what if" rant; What if women today weren't so irresponsible, what if women refused to give into what every guy wants, what if 15yr old girls stopped sleeping around just to be cool, what if they started viewing their bodies as sacred and not fun houses? What if women stopped using sex to get what they want in life. I know what would happen. Women would get the respect they want, std transfer rates would decline, pregnancy rates would decrease, and it wouldn't be that hard to find a women to settle down with that knows less about the male reproductive system then men do.
