Is it possible for a helicopter to fly faster than the speed of sound?

    So long as the helicopter has to depend on it's main rotor for lift the problem is that as the helicopter's speed increases the retreating rotor blade (the one moving back from the direction of flight) will stall and stop generating lift. When that happens the helicopter will pitch out of control. That's why the world speed record for a helicopter is only around 250 MPH.
