  • We do have a strong tendency towards denial of anything which we don't like in life. Its an interesting quirk of the human brain that we think we can fool ourselves and others with these kinds of tricks. If one can look in the mirror and say "yeah, that sort of covers the bald spot", it alleviates some of the anxiety about being bald. But someone combing over the bald spot (or failing to acknowledge any unwanted condition) is indeed doing themselves a disservice by this sort of distorted thinking.
  • Force of habit. I'm partially balding, but only in the right front corner, and still have enough hair that a comb over effectively hides that fact. Were I to gradually find myself completely bald, I probably wouldn't even care about my appearance at all anymore, and would do the joke combover as a sort of "f*** it all" statement.
  • It depends. Can you do it as well as this guy? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5M2ap5JznqE
  • The comb over is pretty obvious to everyone but the comber-overer. Men go bald, men grow old. Wear a hat, get a buzz cut, use medicine, but don't live in denial. Women think CONFIDENCE is sexy, not HAIR.
  • Comb overs don't look good. If a woman disliked a man simply because he was losing hair, she would be a shallow creature indeed.
