It could be because they feel as if they have something important to articulate but don't possess the communication skills (or their audience does not possess the listening skills) to do so. People with Turret’s syndrome swear because it's their nervous tic.
Some simply can't control their mouths. Others think it makes them cool. I really don't understand why people feel it is such a good thing to do. I don't like hearing it, and I don't do it.
Simply because for every action there is a reaction..thats life!!! :D
Cursing goes back to the beginning of time for the most part. However, some people abuse vulgarity and others refrain from cursing in front of children and others.Just depends on the person
People curse because they lack the terminology to complete their sentence any other manner, or they think it is cool to do so. I was always told that people judge you by how well spoken you are.
I drive a school bus for a living, and it is fun, to talk with the kids, and ask them to define the words they are using dork, dude, dingle berry, Duh and so on and so on. Once you tell them what the meaning of the word acutely is, they laugh, but you do not hear it from them anymore. As the years go by I sit and watch the younger ones grow up as they grow seem to correct the younger one on the bus, and hand out freely, their newly found knowledge,
The best is to hear a child on the bus yell Jesus H. Christ and then I will ask what was his midlle name, as the bus goes quite because there little brain is screaming trying to come up with the answer to be smarter then the supid bus driver, I am free to drive the rest of the way home, with quitely thinking childern.
a learnt response pased down from parents and people they met and hung around with in childhood
it's their hobby?
Because people that use cuss words are cool!!! lol
Our Scatological makeup..
Thinking and talking like shit.
Decuz they get pissed off!
"Curse" words only have their bad reputation because of how society deems words. Some commonplace words were considered "cuss" decades or centuries ago, just as some "curse words" do not have any meaning in other countries when translated.
When a word is considered a curse word, people use it because of the intensity associated with it in that certain culture. It gives more power to an interjection, rather than just saying "ouch!" for example.
Usually it is a lack of vocabulary and they fall back on the small words that they know. Gosh Darnit. That makes me PO'ed.
can't control anger
This is a great question and such an important one that the brilliant neuroscientist Steven Pinker devotes a substantial part of his most recent book "The Stuff of Thought" to trying to answer it.
To show you how seriously he treats it, this is what he says on page 364: "The brain has other mechanisms...that play a role in swearing. One of them is the electrophysical response that kicks in when people notice they have just made a mistake. It emanates from the anterior cigulate cortex, a part of the limbic system involved in the monitoring of cognitive conflict." (You still with me?)
He then goes on to describe how swearing could be just a word we use to give form to a shriek, or a yelp, that maybe a dog or other mammal would make. But the range of swear words some of us employ seems to suggest a spectrum of shrieks - from the very mild to the obscene.
Because anger got hold of them
Likely, the answer is in the meaning of the word curse. When some people are upset with a person or thing they wish it harm or a curse. Perhaps all other cursing stems from this basic immoral ill will toward others.
As a crude form of emphasis or exclamation, and out of frustration and anger.
because of anger, that's why anger is a sin, it leads to cursing, killing and more which are also sins, but whats an easy way to remove the anger.....maybe its a matter of time, we should all learn to take time, not to do more evil stuff that will hurt us more
Because they are so frustrated they have to curse to get it out of their system. Yeah...that's it! It relieves tension and frustration. :)
Because people get mad and need to release their anger somehow.
Wow, a question from the "old days" that I hadn't already answered. I think some people curse just to get attention, not realizing how crude and ignorant it makes them look. I save cursing for situations that truly deserve it. +5
Words are just words and i guess some of us do not limit ourselves to only using the ones that someone else decided are appropriate to use :)
