Yes in the Bush war in Angola. May I point out that since this actually killed people although they might have been the enemy, I am by no means proud of that achievement.

I too threw a grenade in the Army in basic training. I was surprised at how heavy it was. Somehow I had expected it to be the weight of a baseball. In our training squad we had a guy who was totally inept and he was the only one who didn't throw. We were all afraid he couldn't throw it far enough to be safe.

I have thrown two real grenades and several Frag grenades in Basic Training for the Army.
