I've often thought that everything which transpires on the internet before the actual meet doesn't count. Because on the internet everybody is a fantasy. You do not know the REAL person behind the illusion until you actually spend some living breathing time with them. The fact is that I have known some people through the internet for years. One person I have shared poetry with for 5 years. We also talked on the phone on several occasions. That said, as much as we have shared: I have no obligation to her, nor she to me. We are separate entities who could easily walk our own way at any time. There is nothing REAL holding any kind of relationship together. Hence: everything before the actual meet is merely foreplay. When you meet somebody in real life, the fantasy will dissipate and you must start over from scratch. Thank you for the question.

Through e-mail, one has time to think about what they are going to say and how they are going to act. It can change your opinion of somebody and lead you to believe that they are different to their true self. I think that a phone call is slightly 'more real'. It isn't as personal as meeting but it is a conversation that shows a persons real reactions and feelings. When you meet someone in real life, everything changes. The way they react to you is something entirely new. Talking to someone in person is much more personal and could entirely chnage your view of them, good or bad.
