• I'm not sure why they need their own country. That the world should (and largely HAS) stop being prejudiced against Jews is certainly something a laudable thing but not every oppressed group needs a country.

  Though it's attacked quite a few small to tiny countries - all of which much poorer, the US hasn't won a war in 60 years. It has bungled almost all of its military misadventures during that time. It has squandered international standing by launching any number of silly, political bullying actions - most of which it's screwed up.

Some of the people who were ethnically cleansed from Palestine are still alive, still have the deeds and keys to their former homes, and are still living in stinking refugee camps, where exactly do you want them to "move on" too? You are either frightfully ignorant of the plight of the Palestinians, or care not one jot for the sufferings of Arabs. I hope it's the former.

  What I believe is that what has happened has happened, we can not change that. Why even try? Lets just learn from what happened and progress on. Sort all the problems out and move on. Easier said than done, yes. But concentrating on the past is no way to move forward.

• You are wrong freeluncher. If these Palestinians can prove the land is theirs (do they have deeds? It is 60 years later after all) then it should be handed back to them. Otherwise it is only going to be sour milk. Yes it is a bad situation, but the only way forward is to move forward, you can not go forward by going backwards all the time. Just take the US as an example. Should they calculate which native American clan owned which land and give it back to them? Oh to be the only surviving member of the clan that owned Manhattan.

The anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel is also the anniversary of the Palestinian 'Nakba', or Catastrophe, for that is what befell them. 3/4 of a million people cleansed from their lands, now living 60 years later in refugee camps with open sewers, facing regular military operations from their oppressors, the Israeli Defence(ha!) Force. Put yourself in their shoes for a tiny teeny wee minute, how do you think you'd feel if a comfortable foreigner, who admits his ignorance regarding your plight, tells you to 'move on, get over it'. I suspect you'd want to punch him.

• When it comes to getting countries to adhere to the UN I think we need to start with the largest country defying the UN, ie the US. Get the US into line then concentrate on the smaller countries with Israel ofc being a priority.

• How are Israel NOT defending themselves? They were attacked with over 10 rockets a DAY during the ceasefire. They are now trying to stop the people that attack them with rockets, hence defending themselves.
  Do not get me wrong, they are stupid for not allowing the press and red cross (plus other aid agencies) into Gaza, and they are killing a huge number of innocent people (which is wrong!) but the cause of the war is right.
