  • Nope, your bike was not made with a coaster brake (this is the kind of brake that works when you pedal backwards. The gear cluster on your bije probably has a one way clutch. Unless you replace the rear wheel with one with a coaster brake you will not have brakes.
  • This might help.. Basic brake adjustment. First look at the (the u shaped thing that is around the wheel) you should be able to squeeze it together to make the pads touch the rim. Make sure the pads are aligned so they touch the rim right in the middle of the shiny part and they touch their entire length. Now release the caliper and squeeze the brake handle. The caliper should move. If it moves but doesn’t touch the rim the brakes nee adjusted. Look where the cable comes onto the caliper. It goes through a hollow bolt with a nut on it. Loosen the nut and turn the hollow bolt so it comes out of the caliper. This will tighten the brakes. The brakes should be adjusted until there is 1/4 inch between the rim and the brake pad. Stop turning the bolt out when the end of it is even with the part of the caliper it screws into. If you need more adjustment, there should be a similar bolt on the brake handle, adjust it there. If it is still loose, let me know and I will talk you though the next step! .
