  • In general, if you have a three dimensional problem like this, try to look for two dimensional cross sections. Imagine a vertical cross section through the diagonal. You see a right triangle. The height is the height of the prism, the other leg is the diagonal of the base, and the hypotenuse is the diagonal of the prism. So if you had the diagonal of the base, you could use Pythagoras to find the diagonal of the prism. Now look at the base. Draw the diagonal. You can find it! Or for this question you could just learn that the diagonal of a prism is sqrt(x^2 + y^2 + z^2) where x and y and z are the dimensions.
