How long does it take before something old and unfashionable becomes 'retro' and therefore fashionable again?

Retro clothing tends to become fashonable again when current trends become cliche and stale, people start to say ya' know what, I'm sick of looking like everyone else, I'll go dig out those bell bottoms. In other words, old trends only become fashionable when the new trends get unfashionable.
