double clutching just gives the driver more time to get the gears situated correctly. cluth from gear to neutral clutch from neutral to the next gear. its a help on the big rigs either going forwards or backwards.

When I learned to drive double de-clutching was an essential skill. I can change gear without using the clutch at all - it's just a question of matching the engine revs to the right speed for the new gear.

Yes, I drive OTR (big rigs) and most have non-synchronized transmissions that recommend that technique.
