  • First you need males and females! LOL....actually once they start you will be sorry.....hundreds of the little buggars....and you can't keep them because the numbers would rapidly pollute the pond....so be grateful!
  • How many do you have? Are they all of the same gender? That could be the problem.
  • Can you tell the difference between males and females? Males are more slender and the females tend to be rounder with not as good fins and tails. And then they need to be at least 2-3 years old and 6-8 inches long. To get them into a spawning mood, try partial water changes like up to 20% each day. Try feeding live food or dried shrimp. Then you must either have densely planted areas so the fry can hide and the eggs will have someplace to attach to, or make a Spawning mop and remover the eggs to another pond to hatch. TO make one, cut 2' lengths of nylon rope, tie a knot or loop in one end and unweave the rope on the other end to make a mop. Let these float on top of the water. When the fish spawn, remove these with the eggs to a safe location. Or of your pond is planted, just let the fry hide in the vegetation.
