  • There's a lot of people who claim to be Wiccan exactly so that they'll scare their parents, so that they can claim to be persecuted, etc. Just like some people have a negative view of Christians because of the whack jobs... same for Wicca. And, a lot of people who claim to practise it know very little about it. For instance, it's not an ancient religion. ;) It's based on Paganism, which is, but Wicca was only organised into what it is now ~50, 60 years ago. Sortof like Christianity might be ancient, but FLDS isn't. <3
  • I think it has a lot to do with the earth, like your a smelly hippie or something.
  • i don't know enough of the religion to have much of an opinion of it. i know they don't worship the devil. i know that they have more to do with nature, and i think it's somewhat of a "live and let live" idea. that's about all i know of it though. it isn't my religion. but i do have a few friends who are wiccan. they're good people. i'm sure there are psychos who are wiccan just as there are psychos who are christian muslim jewish pagan etc....
  • Person who asked the question- I have been wiccan for 14 years and am deeply religious. The persecuyion drives me batty and i often feel victimised by people's wrongly judged opinions on it. If they had knowledge of the religion and still didn't like it fair enough but it is a beautiful religion, full of nature, loving and caring. We do not belieive in the devil and as for curses!!! If we were ever to attempt such a thing it would come back on us three times as bad. I just wish people would take the time to understand it before persecuting it. Thanks
  • As a Wiccan, I've had my unfair share of stereotyping. Devil-worshipper. Dirty hippie. Drug abuser! The only drugs I've ever used were prescription and OTC. And I'm cleaner than a lot of people. What gets me most is when Christians (sorry, Christians, but your group is the one most likely to stereotype us) think of us as bad people. Which is usually far from the truth. I've met wiccans who were nicer than any Christians I've met. And most wiccans are not satanists. In fact, I avoid those types.
  • If you are a Wiccan, then I have no idea why you put this under the 'ancient religions' category, frankly. Our religion is approximately 60 years old. Yes, it probably has elements of actual pre-Christian belief, but that doesn't make it the same as any ancient religion. Gardner's material heavily comes from ceremonial magic and Hinduism. As a whole, it is a synthesis of old and new beliefs, and is itself a new religion. I am a Wiccan, and the religion has been the best fit for me and my path to self-improvement and understanding.
  • The Devil is a Christian concept.
  • (though I have forgot the name of the documentary on the BBC) based on it, every Wiccan is a witch but not every witch is Wiccan. That does not imply connection with the devil but more an attempt at connection with magic. In the same way that some wiccans (when trying to explain my religion) make wrong assumptions & statements, I propably also will end up making wrong assumptions about wiccans so I will go no further.
