Mosquitoes are attracted to scents. Hair spray, cologne, or even just body odors (not necessarily bad ones). I have also heard that mosquitoes do not like certain blood types, and that RH negative blood types do not get biten as often.
I have RH negative blood, and I rarely get bitten by any insects.
mosquitoes are attracted to people who breathe a lot (well.. everyone breathes.. but im talking about how much carbon dioxide your exhalling) i heard mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide (i heard it also comes out of pours in your body.. i should do some research)
so if you run, your going to attract a lot more mosquitoes then someone who's walking beside you..
but lets say you want to get rid of them?..
start smoking.
the smoke from the cig's cover the scent of carbon dioxide (well ofcourse..)
and about Peter B's comment on sweet tooth?
i can vouch for that..
The mosquitoes can "smell" it.. BIG tip..
DON'T EAT BANANAS.
I'm not so sure about the blood type. My daughter(2yrs old) and I are both RH negative and I hardly ever get bitten and she gets bitten the second she goes out the front door. I would love to get to the bottom of this or at least find a way to prevent all the bites she gets. I put bug spray on her, but those pesky insects find a spot with no repellant (i.e. her face, hands, etc.)

And I have RH positive blood, and I'm sometimes the only person in a room that gets bitten... I've also heard sweet blood attracts mosquitoes i.e. folks with a sweet tooth are more likely to be bitten -- I'll vouch for that theory too.

I'm RH neg too, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've ever been bitten. I thought this was down to living in England though, but come to think of it, my family get bitten and they're all postive. Interesting!

I am RH negative and ALWAYS get bitten. For instance we were outside earlier for about an hour, I was the only one wearing bug spray and was the only one who got bitten. And when I came in I found 15 bites!

so much for the RH Negative theory! Thanx for clearing that up... I thought I was a victim of my blood type for all this time... must be the sweet tooth!
