Help answer this question below.

Do many horses get that seriously injured in horse racing? They just had to put down the 2nd place winner in the Kentucky Derby!! How sad is that?

    One of the problems I believe is that they begin riding these racing thoroughbreds at too young an age, if they were to be show jumpers or any other riding horse they would not be ridden regularly or worked until they were at least 3 or 4 years old. At the age of 2 these horse's skeleton system is still growing and the bones are soft.

    It's very sad. Unfortunately, it happens in horse racing with injuries to both horses and jockeys.
