You certainly are tenacious about this issue..what if someone where to make you the object? Would that change your opinion at all? What if someone (a friend) were to pose this question.."Who would like to join me in congratulating Freddy for his intellect, his creativity and his desire to "shake things up" so that we really have to think?" Would you reject such a question on your behalf? Would you insult the person who posed it and those who answered it? :(

I do recall a question being asked about you making maestro...if it bothers you why didn't you flag the question and have it removed? Any user can have a question about them removed if they find it offensive.
-
I seem to recall you being congratulated Sweetums User-Wuser! LOL.
-
Sorry, but from what I have seen, the people who whinge the loudest and bitch constantly about points-whoring are usually the worst offenders. Congratulatory questions aren't going to go away. Just ignore them. It's not like points MEAN anything.
-
My take on it is that somebody who knows "Sweetums User-Wuser" should ask those questions or it kind of lacks sincerity and borders the points grubbing you speak of. Same with those who watch the Congratulating Answerbaggers category and congratulate people they have never even seen before. No they have not and likely will not go away though.

I'm so going to change my username to Sweetums User-Wuser... Personally I don't consider it a problem, points aren't really that important to me (I'm an orange dot-whore), but I agree with Andy that is should be asked by people who knows the person in question well. When it comes to answering, however, I think everybody should be welcome to. I've congratulated people I've never talked to because it was their birthday, why should it by any different with points?
-
Great Awk?! Oh boy! When can I make that level?
-
If you thought Answerbag had anything to do with points or questions, I have news for you. The whole reason for the categories, and the existence of AnswerBag is to get people to click on the pages and to convince the advertisers to pay Demand Media money for it. Edit: this is a direct quote from AB founder, Joel, Oct 16, 2007 Blog "some ABers have wondered about the points system, correctly pointing out that questions congratulating (or memorializing) other ABers generally garner way more points than, say, a good answer to a factual question. Though I'm sympathetic to this view, I'm not sure it's a bad thing, especially if you believe that Answerbag points and levels reflect participation in the community in a larger sense, not just good questions and correct answers."

I have still seen quite a few...
-
You better call me sweetums user-wuser when I reach Great Awk, Freddy. Otherwise I'll cry.
-
I agree with you, Freddy. Nobody's done that for me yet. Maybe we should post the question: "Fuck all happened today, but would you like to give me some points anyway?"
