If it takes 3 and 1/2 hours to charge, what happens if you want to travel more than 225 miles, which is only 4 hours driving at 60mph? Isn't it just shifting the problem to less efficient places, meaning the power station wastes energy rather than the car directly?

I think it is a very good start. How many people drive more than 200 miles a day? Go rent a vehicle for that rare occasion.

Electric cars and hybrids have been around for a hundred years. Unfortunately, development has been on a stand still. The lately increased demand for gasoline worldwide made it economical to restart the development of hybrids and other alternative powered cars. Because of the limited range, combined with the lack of refill stations for electric cars, I think plug-in hybrids are the future. Like the Tesla, plug-in hybrids are powered by electric motors, and can be charged overnight for a few bucks at home. This gives plenty energy for your daily commute. But since they have an onboard generator on fossil fuel, there's no problem traveling longer distances. Re-using brake energy increases economy. So do optional solar panels on the roof, charging your car whilst at work for free.

this "tesla" car you speak of, i'm assuming it differs from other electrics and is powered by a tesla coil? do you have any links for this?

Sounds like a good idea! Tesla had so many good ideas. Strange that we are just now getting around to using them

I think the tesla roadster and more generally, electric cars will be a big deal in the future. There will always be a market for classic gas cars, or high end sports cars like the bugatti veyron hermes, but as far as main stream, electric's will rock the day in the future IMO.
