  • I think the Knights of Columbus is a Catholic order...am I correct? The Freemasons have a very gnostic religious view. They say they accept Christianity, but they really accept the Holy Book of the religion that dominates the culture they are in...and when I say they accept, they display it, but their beliefs are very esoteric and not Christian at all. I know you can join whatever you like, but, if your Catholic faith is important to you, I would stay away from Freemasonry, which does not worship the Lord Jesus, and teaches very different beliefs to Christianity.
  • See http://www.indianafreemasons.com/imoanti/statement.html for the truth.
  • I know the Lodge won't care. Check with the Knights of Columbus to see if they'd kick you out. It's odd how many churches and other groups forbid members to join a Masonic Lodge, and yet the Masonic Lodge has no such restrictions against members of those groups who seek membership in a Lodge. Seems like some groups are being petty, and blaming it on Freemasonry.
  • Nope! See site refernce in comment below.
  • I was a Freemason and a Knight at the same time. Freemasons are under the misconception that Catholics can join. I have done research and recently the Church has issued an opinion that Freemasonry is not acceptable for Catholics to join. Therefore I quit Freemasonry immediately. Therefore the answer is no. You can't according to the church you can't be a mason at all. In fact, Fr. MCGivney, the founder of the Knights started the Knights to provide a fraternal organization for Catholics so they would have a place to join. Freemasons would not allow Catholics to join. It was an anti-Catholic organization in the 1800's to early 1900's and would not admit Catholics. Please see the following official Catholic position: http://showcase.netins.net/web/clearlight/mason.html Except from document: QUAESITUM EST Declaration on Masonic Associations Please pay close attention to the signature on the bottom of this letter it is signed by our current pope. There you have it. ANSWER is NO. Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith It has been asked whether there has been any change in the Church's decision in regard to Masonic associations since the new Code of Canon Law does not mention them expressly, unlike the previous code. This sacred congregation is in a position to reply that this circumstance is due to an editorial criterion which was followed also in the case of other associations likewise unmentioned inasmuch as they are contained in wider categories. Therefore, the Church's negative judgment in regard to Masonic associations remains unchanged since their principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church and, therefore, membership in them remains forbidden. The faithful, who enroll in Masonic associations are in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion. It is not within the competence of local ecclesiastical authorities to give a judgment on the nature of Masonic associations which would imply a derogation from what has been decided above, and this in line with the declaration of this sacred congregation issued Feb. 17,1981. [1] In an audience granted to the undersigned cardinal prefect, the Supreme Pontiff John Paul II approved and ordered the publication of this declaration which had been decided in an ordinary meeting of this sacred congregation. Rome, from the Office of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Nov. 26, 1983 Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger Prefect Father Jerome Hamer, O. P. Titular Archbishop of Lorium Secretary
  • im pretty sure that there was alot of hate between the two groups. The founder of the knights of columbus wanted to join the freemasons but was rejected because of his believe...and im pretty sure thats why he started the K of C so that catholics could have their own brotheren. From my experience im sure that Freemasonry would have nothing to do with such closed-mindedness but its probably more fun to make these huge GANG RIVALRY storys.
  • sorry their should have been quotes on the first paragraph....something i read online...also something i read on wikipedia after looking up Knights of Columbus....but as i said in the last paragraph i dont believe that to be true...so you can take your negative points and stuff um hahaha...i dont care but seriously...give me my point back you bums
  • A Knight of Columbus or a person who in the Buffaloes would not be admitted. All Freemasons Lodges do have a Holy Bible which is always on the masters pedestal when the lodge is open. Its part of the Freemasons ritual when a new candidate comes into Freemasonry. Its open to all religions, and I have met Muslim,Hindu,Jewish and Christian Masons,so its open to all believers who believe in a superior being. The problem with people who nock Freemasonry is that they know nothing about it only what the read.Freemasonry teaches you not to be selfish and give to others who are in need, and this is part of every religion, and by this I mean charity.
