I have it and I have almost no side effects whatsoever. Now I do have a bit of irregularity in my periods now but it's nothing major. When I first got it I was told that my periods might stop altogether, but in my case that didn't happen. I did, however, bleed for some time after. It wasn't long and it was about like a period. I was also told that my partner might experience some discomfort during intercourse but that didn't happen either. You might experience some discomfort after it's put in, but nothing Tylenol or Motrin can't take care of. Your doctor will tell you to take it easy for a few days and no sex for 6 weeks. Insertion of this is considered minor surgery so if doc says take it easy, go with it. But you don't have to worry about estrogen or progesterone related side effects because there isn't any of either one in it. And you don't have to worry about weight gain either. You may be a little moody for a while but I think that's a daily thing for probably 90% of women. And one other thing, sex and tampons won't affect placement of it.

I got the merina in March of this year and lord have i had some problems with it. I got it put in about the end of march and i had a pain in my left side and so i asked him about it and he told me to take some 3 ibprofin and 2 tylnol that it should help it. Well i bled just about everyday (not heavy) for almost 8 months...may i had to have a cyst removed off my left ovary that was caused from it..that is the worst pain i have ever had...it was very painful but now it seems the side effects are easing up on me but those first few months dang near got me. It could effect everyone a different way but they dont tell it DOES cause ovarian cyst..so if you have a pain that starts on either left or right side get it checked immediatly...when they removed mine it was the size of tennis ball...

I HAD THE MERINA BIRTH CONTROL PLACED IN OCTOBER AND IN NOVEMBER IT WASN'T IN PLACE..I WENT FOR AN ULTRASOUND AND THEY COULDN'T FIND IT, BUT MY DOCTOR DIDN'T STOP THERE! I HAD AN X-RAY AND THEY FOUND IT..COULN'T TELL IF IT WAS INSIDE MY UTERUS OR OUTSIDE, SO WENT FOR A CT SCAN, AND FOUND IT TRAVELED OUT OF MY UTERUS!!!YEA, WHAT THAT MEANS IS SURGERY, THEY SAY 1 IN A MILLION THIS HAPPENS TO, NOT SURE ABOUT THAT NUMBER BECAUSE LOOKING THIS UP IT HAPPEN A COUPLE OF OTHER TIMES RECENTLY!! SO, THIS FRIDAY IS SURGERY COULD BE DAY SURGERY OR IF THEY FIND IT TANGLED IN MY C-SECTION SCAR TISSUE COULD BE IN HOSPITAL UP TO 2 FULL DAYS..SO, IF YOUR THINKING MERINA FOR BIRTH CONTROL, RECONSIDER IT!!! THANKS, LISA ESCOBAR
